this angered me.
I got 1 wrong on the writing section with a 9 essay score, and I got a 750. I had a friend who got a 9 essay but didn’t any wrong on the multiple choice, and he got a 790. That one question I got wrong on the W section had a 40 point swing.

^holy crap! I thought the W curve was harsh…i got -4 total (3 wrong) and 10 essay for 710. What does -2 and 12 essay usually yield?

Usually 780 or, sometimes, 800.

i got 2 questions wrong and an 8 essay… 710

^aight thanks.

you know -2 and -3 -6 and -7 -10 and -11 are totally different things

I got 7 wrong and an 8 on my essay got a 620. But, it doesn’t matter because none of my desired schools care about writing.

Which schools are those?

The 9 curve is REALLY harsh. I got a 9 essay with a -0MC and got a 790 as well. However, in order to equate it, the CB uses a harsh curve at the beginning for each of the lower SAT scores (9 and below). It has to, otherwise a 9 and 12 would be the same thing.
At any rate, a 750 is excellent. Plus colleges don’t really look at writing as long as you have 700+ so don’t be too discouraged. Imagine - a difference of 1 point on the essay was a difference between a 790 and 800. Somehow, to me, a 790 is the same as a 750. An 800 however isn’t. Again though, don’t get too mad about the writing scores.

honestly! the curve was ridiculous!!

2 wrong, 9 essay

730!

i bet if i had gotten a 10 essay then i would have gotten a 750. i think the curves following the ESSAYS are ridiculous. honestly, the reader could be biased; i mean that IS why one said 5 and one said 4, if i were luckier maybe i could have gotten two 5’s; it’s so subjective…
