Any parents here with kids who attended Wash U and recieved fin aid? I am especially wondering what the effect is on aid there if you have two kids in college, which we will next year. I called once about this a couple of weeks ago and got a fairly vague answer like "Well, we like to keep it pretty consistent." Not good news, and the aid package that came today might not be workable. Just trying to sort things out!

I got an email just now from a fin aid person at Wash U which stated that having another kid in college is considered a big change in family circumstances, but the amount of change in the financial aid picture (ie. 50% or 40% or something else) was not given. So I sent back a more precise question about whether or not they follow FAFSA guidelines, and I hope to hear back soon.

My understanding (I'm not in this situation yet) is that in general EFC goes up about 10% when having 2 in college. This is not specific to Wash U. HTH.

There were many posts last year about this topic.

One thing to remember about Wash U is that they are "need aware", not "need blind" in admissions decisions. Look at last year's post admission decision CC posts for reference. There were a lot of people disappointed with their Wash U offers.

We got offered the least amount of money from them of any school and have friends whose son got offered nothing. They were amazed that Wash U seemed to not care. They had a hard time even getting someone at Wash U to even discuss it with them despite the fact that it was his clear cut, first choice. He won a Presidents Scholarship at Santa Clara and also got a substantial scholarship at Carnegie Mellon where he ultimately enrolled.
