Washington and Lee vs. Tulane (Honors)

So much drama! It comes down to the fact that you can’t produce a single bit of evidence in support of your prejudices. It’s okay with me, really. But your puerile insults don’t help your case any.

Although you do not appear to have realized it, I have done you a tremendous service in this thread, in this relatively quiet corner of CC. Not only by attempting to steer you toward the use of objective data in support of your arguments, but also to alert you to the very real possibility that your “Tulane-O-Matic” machine is stuck in overdrive. Tulane’s a fine school and I bet it would be a fun place to attend college. And New Orleans has more character than just about any other five U.S. cities combined. You do both a disservice through–shall we say–overvigilance. Good Lord! ■■■■■■■■ the forums of any and all other American colleges on this site in search of remarks about Tulane that you consider inadequately deferential. In the end, by ‘protesting too much’ you have invited a natural suspicion on my part and, the record shows, that of many others.

The other extreme partisans I’ve encountered on this site, as I mentioned before, are the WUSTL crew. Absolutely rabid! And I have no idea why: their school (unlike Tulane) actually *is *highly ranked. So one has to wonder about WUSTL too.

It’s all like some big political food fight. As one with no personal axe to grind, I find it all very amusing.

Where did I insult you? I and Benetode produced a dozen examples at least of Tulane being actively on the rise, and you just ignore them. But people can see that for themselves, so you only diminish yourself with such statements.

Laughable. Saying ‘Tulane has received numerous awards and recognition’ isn’t the same as showing a single one. ONE SINGLE ONE!

And Benetode merely declared that certain Tulane departments are older than certain departments at other schools. As if that proves anything!

Insults? You mean, as in your post immediately preceding? Of course you can’t see that. But your ■■■■■■■■ is becoming tiresome, so don’t be surprised if I stop responding to it. I notice many others have done just that.

You mean you don’t know how to use Google? That’s too bad. Besides, you seem to be arguing against yourself now. You looked at the information and admitted you were wrong. It’s really very odd. You know, you made the original incorrect assertion. So it is OK for you to make unsubstantiated statements, but no one else. OK then.

Maybe the Tulane board would be a better place for you two to fight about this. Little relevance to W&L at this point!

Grateful though I am to both of you for offering your opinions and your expertise, I am delighted to announce that I have decided I will be attending Tulane University come fall. It was a considered and difficult decision, but in the end the atmosphere of Washington and Lee, although ideal for some, did not suit the way I envisioned my college future. I hold no hard feelings towards W&L; they’re a beautiful, prestigious quality institution, but they simply were not the one for me. In light of this, the debate that’s been going on here, while substantive, is no longer relevant to the original topic of this thread, so I’d kindly ask you both to move it over to a thread created in one of the two schools’ forums proper, since it’s becoming a little hurtful to have to read scathing criticisms of a school I’m committed to and am rapidly becoming more excited about attending.

Thank you.

Chemist: you have now stated that Tulane ranks 30th in SAT’s several times when you know it isn’t true. As I showed you earlier, Tulane is not even in the top 100 for SAT scores. Why do you continue spreading this lie?

Here’s the link again (you may want to save it for future reference): [Top 500 Ranked Universities for Highest SAT 75th Percentile Scores](<a href=“USA University College Directory - U.S. University Directory - State Universities and College Rankings”>Top 500 Ranked Colleges - Highest SAT 75th Percentile Scores)

And as I have told you before in response SJUHawk, the same way USNWR divides up schools into National Research U’s and LAC’s, etc. is what I am referring to as well. When someone says Notre Dame ranks #20 in USNWR, that is only for national universities, it does not include LACs. And your reference is not average SAT score, it is combined score of 75th percentile. Not the same thing at all. And your reference is out of date, as I also pointed out before, since it lists Tulane as 1370 when it is 1420 [Tulane University Profile - SAT Scores and Admissions Data for Tulane University](Tulane University: Acceptance Rate, SAT/ACT Scores, GPA)

You can continue challenging it, will continue putting up correct data. Besides, I am not the one that did the research regarding the average SAT scores. It was Hawkette.

Thank you, loreli. I have no animosity towards W&L whatsoever, in spite of what has transpired on this thread. It was hurtful to me to see people attacking a school I had chosen to attend, and before I started what you term my “vitriol” I very civilly, in my view, requested that this sort of repetitive, mud-slinging argument stop, or at least move to another thread, since the purpose of this thread had expired. To answer your, at this point, slightly silly question, I returned to this thread it was on my subscriptions, and so I recieved an email in which SJU decided to personally insult me and harass me, and since if anyone were to voice that kind of hateful opinion towards me or a loved one of mine in real life, I wouldn’t hesitate to respond, I acted likewise. I admit I was angry in my choice of words, but would argue I was justifiably so, given previous events. Honestly, I only got angry when I was personally insulted; up to that point, I had just finished making a tough decision where Tulane and Washington and Lee were my two top choices, thus communicating the fact that I think very highly of W&L; I was accepted at several other top-notch schools, and the combination of personal, social, and academic factors that made these two rise to the top should make it clear that I had a great deal of admiration for W&L.

Frankly, this makes me sad. I just don’t see the logic in it. I didn’t attack anyone, I didn’t insult anyone (if you want to say that I’m somehow spreading hatred towards and encouraging bashing of W&L, then I’d suggest to you that I voiced a number of, obviously distinct, but equally pressing, in my mind, concerns about Tulane, and I received nothing but helpful commentary on that board, no accusations). Marsden, SJU, where does your hatred come from? I ask as an honest question. I mean, if there was some indelible incident in your life that marked Tulane as indisputably evil, your actions might be logical, but in the current circumstances, it seems as though you simply enjoy the pleasure of insulting and hurting others who have done no injury to you.

And I’d appreciated it if you didn’t tell people to climb under a rock. Loreli was only trying to reintroduce rationalism into this conversation, and addressed you with civility and respect. If you’d like us to take you seriously on this board, I suggest you move beyond petty bickering unworthy even of a high school student, and try to treat those, even those with whom you disagree, with a basic modicum of respect.

I had posted but deleted my response as the OP’s post above was more appropriate.

To the OP-- if someone sends you insulting or harassing emails or PMs, you should report them to the mods. It is against the TOS.

OP – Please don’t hold these posts against W&L bc they certainly don’t speak for all (if any) of us Generals. As for me, I wish you a wonderful experience at the wonderful school you have chosen!

That is a very gracious post, Esquette. My previous post seems to be gone, but so do most of those unkind, uncivil ones that I think you are referring to (and to which I responded, and my post was directed).

I’m disappointed that I missed all the drama. Away from my computer for a few days and I missed the insults directed at me. Oh well.

Since several posts have been removed, including some of yours… seems that the responses to yours were justified. No matter now. Water under the proverbial bridge.

SJU, lol :)
