I’d prefer to see stats posted here.
I think ED II stats should be posted in the other ED thread since that one doesn’t have many posts. It’s probably best for this thread to remain a discussion since it already has 10 pages.
Portfolio play a major role in Sam Fox. So it is hard to compare stats.
What would you say they are looking for in portfolio ? Other posts have stated that grades and test scores have to be pretty much on par with rest of the school. Thanks!
any news on merit?
Just learned there were over 1200 applicants for ED2 and 250 were accepted (~20%). If these numbers are correct, that’s a very low admit rate for ED2 compared to ED1 last year (42%).
This year, they had ~750 ED1 admits, but I don’t know how many ED1 applicants.
Last year they had 2160 applicants with 907 ED1 admits.
Since this year’s ED1 and Ed2 add up to 1000, I would think RD stats are going to be really low!
I’m still trying to get confirmation from another WashU parent that those ED2 stats are from admissions and not speculation. She has emailed admissions to find out.

That math is correct. The number I want confirmation on is that there were 1200 applicants for ED2.
When will scholarship notifications come?
Early March, usually around the 2nd week. If you get a phone call, you are a finalist.
So 1200+ applicants for EDII?
Yes, that’s what I read on one of the Washu FB groups. Just a rumor, nothing official
I posted this in the RD thread, but I’ll do the same here. I noticed an interesting pattern concerning admissions the last few years.
ED/ED1 decisions are announced roughly a week before the reading period (dead week) or during dead week.
RD decisions are usually announced around spring break, which starts 3/11. So anything between this Thursday to next Friday are possible dates. Given that scholarship finalists have already been announced, all decisions have already been made and everything is being uploaded to the admissions portal.
ED2 was announced 2/15 this year (2nd week of February and first round of midterms at WashU).
WashU academic calendars up to 2021-2022 are on the website. Future applicants can roughly guess when decision dates will be made.
To summarize, decisions are usually announced roughly in the second week of the month on a Thursday or Friday, usually around the time when students are busy with exams or on break.
The pattern I’m noticing is that ED2 truly seems to be for recruited athletes and legacies, especially those who are full-pay or close to it. I doubt ED2 offers any admission advantage to students who are outside these categories. Same might be said for ED1, but I feel less confident about that.
@elena719 I am also a WashU parent and agree with your impression of ED2. But I’m wondering how you made that inference. I’ve noticed this pattern from announcements in the WashU parent group, but am wondering if you’ve got other sources of info. I ask because my younger son was not admitted ED2 and we’re all still surprised (and disappointed).
No, I don’t have other sources. I just noticed that it seems (based on what I’ve seen from comments in social media) that almost all of the ED2 kids are recruited athletes.
My son is not an athlete, but he is a full-pay legacy related to an active and well connected alumnus.
(He also has great stats, which doesn’t hurt.)
For future people reading this thread: If you are thinking about applying ED2, maybe don’t bother unless you’re rich, connected, or a recruited athlete. Focus your energy instead on applying to a large array of RD schools, including some attractive safeties.
@elena719 That would be a lot of recruited athletes!
This is the first year for ED2 at WashU, so it seems like making recommendations might be premature.
@waldo755 maybe premature to generalize to future years, but she’s on target for this year IMHO. What we do know, is that ED2 did not seem to increase chances in the way ED1 has historically at WashU.
