Just wanted to add that EDII might be a good choice for you if you apply through QuestBridge. You don’t have to be any of the categories mentioned above (rich, athlete, etc) to get in EDII. I was a finalist who didn’t match to any school on my ranking list (I ranked WashU) but applied EDII and got admitted! I’m sure other QB finalists were admitted to WashU this way as well. WashU loves to see interest, so if you rank WashU, that’s definitely a bonus.
@sagehen47 I wouldn’t think it could increase the chances like ED1 – they need to leave room for all those qualified RD applicants.
And congrats @polarx135! I hope you love WashU as much as my son does.
I know it’s one acceptance, but there is a kid from my D19’s HS who was admitted EDII as a recruited athlete.
Thanks for adding the point about Questbridge.
It did seem like ED2 had a lot of athletes at least based on the activity in the WashU FB Parents group.
@elena719 The reality of the situation is that ED is binding, so financial aid can be an issue in that scenario. Naturally, ED attracts/benefits full-pay applicants. I may be wrong, but Legacy most likely only helps for ED1.
Why would legacy only help for ED1?
If I recall my son’s freshman year class, there were a lot of legacies and kids of faculty/staff. And all accepted ED IIRC.
There is one family we know in the Bay Area who has 2 kids already attending and 1 accepted ED1 who will be attending in August. The entire family is legacy I believe.
I don’t think my son’s high school has any legacy kids attending WashU. Most of them apply early to hedge their bets, although in the last 2 graduating classes, there were 2 athletes accepted ED.
I hope that family you know from the Bay Area own half of the Bay Area because that’s a lot of tuition dollars to shell out. ?
@ChicagoSportsFn the family lives in Woodside so they can definitely shell out the nearly quarter of a million a year!
We’re above the threshold of qualifying for financial aid, but we’re not nearly at that level…and we only have one kid. Otherwise, it would be state school for sure. There’s a LOT of money in Woodside. We live just over the hill from Woodside where the relatively “poor” folks are.
The same family hosts a get together for Bay Area WashU new freshman kids. The year I went to the get together, they had 2 food trucks on-site for the attendees. I can sympathize with @elena719. We’re the Hoi Polloi…
We recently toured WashU. At the info session, someone asked about acceptance rates for ED1 and ED2 vs RD. The admissions person said not to go from this year’s numbers as it was the first admission cycle with ED2 and they need to make adjustments for next year.
@carpoolingma did they say they were going to not accept as many ED (either I or II) next year? bc I think from the stats this year, they admitted a ton ED so there aren’t that many spots for RD
@polarx135 No further details or explanation was given despite attempts.
@elena719 UPenn, for example, has explictly stated that legacy only effects admittance during ED. I’m not sure what WashU’s policy is for legacy, so I can only presume.
@cbrowder17, UPenn doesn’t have ED2.
Speaking of Woodside…
Woodside guy caught in admissions cheating scandal!
PS: Washu NOT named in the scandal. Thought I should clarify.
@Hamurtle We are a new Bay Area WashU family, my son was accepted for 2023. Will there be a gathering of the incoming Frosh from the Bay Area? or how did you find out about it in the past? thanks!
“03-08-2019 at 1:42 pm The same [Bay Area] family hosts a get together for Bay Area WashU new freshman kids.”
@lachhi there will be an official reception set up by WashU.
I went to 2 unofficial receptions set up by parents. Found about them through the WashU Parents FB group.
