Washington University in St. Louis Class of 2014

The other thread is too cluttered, this one is just going to be who got accepted/deffered/turned down amongst early decision applicants. I'm using the formatting from last year and posting the code so you all can have at it :]

I might as well start this from last year. To make this work, remove the spaces from the tags. (the code is at the bottom of the post)

Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): Missouri
[] School Type: Large public high school
[] Ethnicity: Caucasian
[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: <$20000
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Possibly first generation, that’s a complicated story. I had a friend at the university that I put down as a friend on the supplement.[/ul]

Reflection[ul]
[li] Strengths: I was the only student out of eighty to get chosen for the leadership award and its accompanying $500 scholarship. I come from a poor household of 5. My ACT score was slightly above average for WashU. I have a strong upward trend starting my junior year in both grades and course difficulty. My essay was read by a professor that teaches courses on writing personal essays for graduate schools, and she made few corrections and thought it was strong on the whole. I’ve taken 11 college level classes (7 AP) with mostly A’s.[/li][li] Weaknesses: My class rank and my lack of extracurriculars, although I tried to explain that in my counselor’s rec and other areas as having no transportation and having to help a lot around the house my sophomore and junior years. My first quarter my senior year I had an A- in AP European History and a B+ in Anatomy and Physiology.[/li][li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: See weaknesses. I thought they would overlook those in light of my junior and senior years, as well as my performance at their program, but apparently not (or they found some other reason to turn me down). [/li][li] What would you have done differently?: Not much I could do differently aside from turning back time to my sophomore year. I would’ve written them a letter of interest, but by the time I thought of this it would’ve been too late to mail it.[/ul]
[/li]

General Comments: It didn’t really bother me that much to see that I was deferred. WashU was my dream school, but it didn’t crush me. I guess all of that stoic philosophy came in handy haha. It was disappointing to see that their dean of the summer school’s “very highest recommendation” didn’t carry much weight, and I probably won’t even get to use the scholarship they gave me. As was said earlier in this thread, very few seem to have been accepted from HSSP Session B. Only two that I know of have been accepted, including the brother of the person that posted earlier.

Posting for my son
