Do they offer skype interviews? Or are the interviews on campus only?
@AnArcticMonkey there are alumni interviews if there are alumni available in your area, but they strongly encourage you to visit campus and have an on-campus interview.
Just got requested to do one today!
another international applicant here applying to the colleges of arts and sciences!
Hi everyone, I’m a current washu undergrad majoring in computer engineering and minoring in design. Feel free to ask me any questions you might have!
@ManaManaWegi @theriightwei I know the feeling!
Also, I received an email inviting me to schedule an alumni interview. Did all applicants get this?
@Runnergirl1226 I did not, but I have also already had an interview on campus.
If you do get invited to a Wash U interview, you definitely need to go, because Wash U weighs interviews pretty heavily. If you didn’t get one, no biggie, just be sure the rest of your application is solid.
@Unoriginqle1648 please describe the typical characteristics of a student at WashU. im going to assume smart is one of them so you can skip that one. :). Do you see them as competitive or cooperative? Down to earth or full of themselves? Preppy or hipster? Etc…
how do you contact to get an interview???
i got put on the wait list for an interview ugh i guess there are just so many applicants nearby
@allima same. I got put on a waitlist. Should I still show up in case someone cancels? Or should I just not go?
@ap012199 I wouldn’t go, unless they confirm you can in fact interview on that day
@ap012199 but I want to email them again to find more interview opportunities, are you?
@allima when they put me on a waitlisted they said “no further action is needed” so I feel like they don’t want us emailing but I want to send one lol. I may wait until the interview date is closer.
Update: I’ve been taken off the waitlist and have been given an interview! Any tips?
@Isabel2017 hahaha nice question, I’ll skip saying smart then!
As with all large groups washu has a range. I’d say there’s a moderate number of both preppy people and hipsters, but one characteristic almost everyone has in common is kindness. It’s somewhat cliché to say but almost everyone on campus is caring and down to earth. I’m sure that there are those that are full of themselves but I haven’t really come across all that many people like that.
I went to a very competitive and high-strung high school, so I was expecting something similar when I came to Washu, but I was completely wrong. Sure the work is hard and you’ll be pushed (if this isn’t something you like, I’d recommend reconsidering washu!) but it’s a really cooperative and friendly environment that results in a much less stressful atmosphere than I experienced in high school, and than the enviroments my friends describe at other universities. For example everyone has a ton of work during finals yet I don’t really think anyone in my friend group was particularly stressed out! Group studying is very common, I haven’t seen anyone being particularly selfish; this is probably because most classes don’t grade on a curve system so your success isn’t dependant on the failure of others.
Hope I didn’t ramble too much
@ap012199 I’d definitely recommend accepting the interview if thats something you’re debating! Im in engineering, but in my interview my interviewer and I both noticed we were into film, so we ended up discussing our favorite movies for most of the time! I did talk about some of my engineering projects at the start of the interview, but it ended up being mostly a conversation about something we were both passionate about. Id say the most important things are to be yourself and let your passions show! Washu is a little nerdy, it’s cool to be really passionate about something.
@Unoriginqle1648 – Agree totally. Our student, a Sophomore, has had very similar experiences. Definitely a collaborative, helpful environment. You will work, but you will also make great friends and find a great community! Wash U also works very hard to make sure that there are fun things to do year round. Student is very very happy in St. Louis!
