they base it less on the GPA number and more on the level of difficulty of your courses
Interesting. Can you give me a link? I’m too lazy to go through the threads.

@joonyblue12
they only accept about 6% of transfer applications.

I don’t have the link because it’s somewhere in the threads from the last few years. You’ll have to just look that up yourself. You can also look at info people share and then see when they post they were accepted. The GPA’s vary a bit.
If you took the tour and met with admissions they explain that because GPA’s can vary so much (some schools are weighted, others aren’t–especially bad with HS GPA). It doesn’t really give a clear idea of academic ability throughout the applicants.
That’s why they look at your test scores, transcripts (like what classes you actually took), and your personal statement so heavily.
You can just call them and ask as well. Most of the websites giving the

This article goes into why GPA isn’t equivalent across institutions. It focuses more on conversion issues across countries, but the issues with calculations is explained

Only a 6% transfer acceptance rate? Where does that number come from? I can’t find any official statements from WashU on transfer acceptance rates, but seem to find ‘unofficial’ ones heavily varying from the 10% range to the high 20s…

@MysteriousDude The other user is wrong. It was 14.6% last year, it has been below 10% and above 20% in other years. It’s on the CDS, someone explained on the first page of this thread.

@MysteriousDude @sPib9Kiv9anD0aWd Look at post #7. I dug through their Common Data Set and found that they accepted just under 15% of transfer applicants for the last cycle.

This thread is not nearly as active as I hoped

@limitsbylaw

ok, here’s something to get things started…
Are there repercussions for not going to a school after submitting a deposit (other than losing the deposit)? Because Michigan has a May 1st deadline which is before I hear back from a lot of other schools.

P.S.
I was going off of this when I said 6%:
http://■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/stats/transfer-acceptance-rates/
But the common data set is reliable, so I stand corrected.

@sPib9Kiv9anD0aWd I don’t think so; I know people who’ve done that before, and I’m pretty sure all that happened to them was that they lost the money. I think the only thing that you can really get in trouble for as an applicant that is not related to grades is to break an ED agreement by applying elsewhere after they’ve admitted you (unless you can’t afford to go to the ED school).

I know decisions won’t be coming out for like another month, but I’m getting so impatient.

@Racer33 I’m also impatient. I’ve been checking compulsively most days. What other schools have you applied for and what do you like about WashU?

WashU was the best school I applied to. I would have applied to Ivies, UChicago, Duke, etc., but I don’t think I can swing that financially. From my understanding, WashU is much more generous with FA for students with situations like mine. I am probably going to apply to Creighton University as well, but I’m not sure I would prefer Creighton to my current school. If I’m not accepted into WashU (or if they don’t give me the FA I need), I think my plan is to study abroad next year through the University of Nebraska, where I am now. What about you?

WashU is the only place I’ve applied to for transfer. If I don’t get in I have some internship opportunities for my fall semester I can get excited about. I also will try again and add in Duke and some other schools that wouldn’t be my ideal pick, but still worth it.
Similar with the financial situation. I’d actually pay less than my current public school.
I really love their emphasis on research. They have professors researching the specific things I would like to focus on in a graduate program so it would be nice to try to work with them in undergrad. My current school doesn’t have super rigorous coursework for me to continue with. It also doesn’t promote a culture of intellectualism, so I feel like my peers aren’t really interested in learning. It just seems like WashU has the opportunities and culture I’d enjoy for the remainder of my undergrad and at a price I can afford with financial aid.
I also really like St. Louis and would enjoy living there.
Study abroad is a good alternative if you don’t get accepted. It’ll put you in a new school and probably allow for really cool experiences.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot to talk about why I like WashU.

•It’s close enough to home to visit, but still far enough to provide a new environment and allow me to gain new perspectives.

•Obviously, their academics are astounding. And they aren’t just strong in one area, which is really appealing to me, considering I am rather indecisive about what exactly I want to do with my future. It also creates a lot of intellectual diversity.

•All the little things about the school are great (e.g. food, dorms, campus)

•I am hoping to play on their baseball team. They are Division III, which probably right in my goldilocks zone in terms of talent.

•I would enjoy a smaller campus, smaller classes, etc. My current school has about 25,000 undergrads, and this semester, I only have one class with fewer than 70 students.

•I’m really intrigued by WashU’s Student Entrepreneurial Program (StEP) where students can run their own businesses right on campus.

•I don’t know anybody on campus. A lot of people tell me that to try to convince me not to go, but that just encourages me more. I haven’t made a whole lot of new friends at my current school, just because I normally hang out with all the people I knew prior to starting college.

•On a similar notes, I think I will mesh better with WashU’s student body. I have friends here, but a lot of the kids go here just because of the party scene and the football games.

•My current school, without trying to sound arrogant, is really easy. I’m looking for something a little more challenging.

Just got an email saying that I need to access my WashU Pathway to check the status of my app or view admissions decisions, and I thought it might literally already be the admissions decision and my heart rate actually flew through the roof.

Anyway, anybody else get the email? Maybe it means they’ll release soon?

Did anyone get the “Access to WashU Admissions Decisions” e-mail just now?

It only says "We are sending this email to all applicants so you are aware that we do not send paper decisions. " but, seriously WashU, don’t give me a panic attack right now.

Haha, just posted about that.

It literally did set off my anxiety though, my heart rate is still going fast.

I got the email, found out it was nothing, and was just like, “bruh”

@usualhopeful hahaha, false alarm!

I did hear that decisions would be out mid-May so I think we still have some waiting to get through.

@somethingscript Yeah, they said mid-May online. I just don’t know what to believe anymore because Tufts says mid-May and normally they start to release around April 25, someone in the Tufts forum claims to already have an acceptance this year.

There’s no way they used the subject line “Access to WashU Admissions Decisions” without knowing that would cause some panic.
