Hi everyone! I thought I'd create this thread so everyone wait listed at WUSTL 2018 could share information about the wait list. If you have any news about what's happening with the wait list please post it! Thanks

PS: I myself got wait listed. I got the decision three days ago.

Son got wait listed too, and he has moved on to other schools now, we realistic dont think he can move from waitlist to accepted by looking at the waitlist history of WUSTL in last 3 years.

Considering the number that was waitlisted, there is a slim chance of acceptance even if they do move students off the waitlist. No point in holding our breaths…

Waitlisted, Looks like thousands of kids are waitlisted. Last year very few people got accepted from waitlist…

Last year one of my son’s friends was waitlisted and did get called in early May. They gave him 48 hours to decide and basically no financial aid. (Based on the offer my son received this year, the friend would likely have gotten a similar offer if he had been accepted RD- similar financial position to our family). He didn’t accept the spot because they weren’t able to offer any more money.

Thanks for the information. Basically we should be ready to pay full tuition fees. Can we scholarship following year ? I mean second or third year.

That’s a good question. I know that part of my son’s package included a need based scholarship that would be renewed based on fafsa/css each year, the amount isn’t locked in for 4 years.

Son was waitlisted. Moving on to other schools.

A very good friend of mine is a freshman this year at wash u and has friends who volunteer in the admissions office and have told him this information pertaining to the waitlist this year:

The past two years (this year’s freshman and sophomore classes) are both over-enrolled (the class of 2016 by quite a bit). This, compounded with the fact that they are tearing down Ruby (freshman dorm- oldest dorm on campus and where my friend lives, it’s sketchy AF) and having less freshman housing means that they CANNOT overbook the upcoming freshman class. This means that they waitlisted a significantly larger number of people than normal this year with the thought that they WILL use the waitlist this year.

So I guess that means there’s still a slim chance for other people who have been waitlisted like me.
Good luck to you all:)

Does applying for financial aid hurt your chances of getting of the waitlist?

^ Purgatory- good question. From my understanding, WUSTL is not 100% need blind when it comes to deciding on its last admits. While they do a stellar job for most students who need the aid, when the going gets tough, finances can come into play.

waitlisted. Probably will capituulate since chance of getting in is too small

Honestly, definitely. WashU has a practice of putting some students they otherwise would have accepted who can’t afford it on the waitlist and taking some kids who can afford it off the waitlist. It’s a really unfortunate practice, and the administration is trying to improve every year, but it happens.

WashU is not a need blind school, and that goes with definition of not being need blind^. However, WashU s a wonderful school with abundant opportunities for students to take advantage of!

On the waitlist, however, I don’t quite understand the process of it. If people get responses after May 1st, are people supposed to put all of their eggs into one basket by waiting to hear after the national response deadline of May 1st? Not allowing them to enroll anywhere else?

Yes I have a similar question, if we do get accepted after the waitlisting, can we still decline the offer and choose to go to another school?

Yes, you can always decline a waitlist offer. If are offered a spot, and you do want to accept it, and have already accepted at another school, you have to notify that school and may forfeit any deposits, etc. already paid- you would want to check into the policy at that particular school. I remember years ago I got off the waitlist at Northwestern and forfeited a $500 deposit so I could go there- was well worth it!!

@prsguitar - Based on info from other posters, the word is that in 2 of the last 3 years Wash U accepted no one- zero- off the wait list…so I think you need to accept offer from your first choice among schools where you have been accepted-- then, if Wash U should happen to come calling in June or July you can see what options you have (involving some loss of deposit money) if you want to jump ship. Check policy at the school where you do accept.

I have to add that I do know students here who were accepted off the waitlist (for the class of 2017) and it is not impossible. However, it’s definitely nothing to expect.
