Washington University (WashU) in St. Louis Class of 2022 APPLICANTS

@mem986 Same thing happened to me when I got my letter, I called immediately and they said they were not sure why my letter said my application was incomplete. It was an oversight and all my materials were in. I would call just to confirm, but everything is probably in order on your end!

For those students who had interviews, I hope things went well. I had a chance to talk to alumni and parents who were staffing the interview session I was at and all of them spoke favorably about WashU.

The caliber of the interviewees was also very high. At the Bay Area interview session, 21 students had interviews and the consensus was that they would be an asset to the Class of 2022.

The one sour note was that there was a student signed up for an interview who never showed up and did not contact the regional rep. Interviews are of course optional, but this student did not make a good impression. Please remember that if you have some extenuating circumstances, make your best effort to explain why you need to cancel.

Can someone tell me what the FAFSA code for WUSTL is? I can’t seem to find this information anywhere

@trashboi the fafsa website has a school code search function. When I enter washington university in St. Louis, this is what comes up 002520. But you should double check me because I don’t want to have given you the wrong code. There’s a different code for the med school, so make sure you see the right one.

hi, i turned in my application a few weeks ago, how will we hear about the opportunity for an alumni interview?

@thatmariza, I belive you can request an alumni interview. Google that on their website. I know I’ve seen it before. Good luck.

I just submitted my application by December 8th to be considered for an alumni interview. However, do they contact me for an interview or do I have to request one myself right now?

My son is a Junior in HS and is showing strong interest in WashU, but I just can’t see us affording it. He scores very well on the standardized tests and we hope he will be a National Merit (haven’t seen scores yet). Do you think going to the Summer HS Institutes at Wash U this summer would help him get one of the full ride scholarships? Is there anything else he can do over the next year to make himself more likely to get them?

@liecdre Keep in mind that WUSTL promises to meet 100% of demonstrated financial need.

@Jjlghv73 Yes, I saw that, but when I put in my numbers they came back as expecting our family contribution to be $30k per year, which is absolutely impossible for us (pretty much insane). It is actually interesting that I ran the same numbers for Northwestern and University of Chicago, which he is also looking at and they thought we could swing $15k per year, which is challenging still, but a bit more reasonable (with loans). Why the same financial numbers would make WashU think we could afford twice as much is unclear.

Regardless, a large merit scholarship would be helpful, so I want to direct my son as best I can to that end. Obviously, I would hope the things he does would also better his chances at simply getting accepted as well.

Thanks!

Hi! I applied ED to WashU and I was just wondering if they tell you on the 15th or if I should keep checking the pathway to see if they updated it? Also if they do give you a decision on the 15th, what time is it usually at?

Thanks!!

@vikuya1 So right now we are speculating about what date decisions are released. No need to keep checking the portal now.

Once the official date is announced, everyone gets an email telling them to check the portal. The time should be around 5:00 Central Time (end of workday in St. Louis).

Can someone please answer my question? Thanks

@lionking973 you need to request an interview.

Information for interviews is shown in on the FAQ page. You might be contacted if there is a inter

Oops, forgot some words in the above post-should have said ‘You might be contacted if there is an interview event in your area.’

So should I request an interview or wait to be contacted?

Better to request one as soon as possible.

Ok great! I’ll wait for an email then. But just as a clarification- everywhere I check it says December 15, is that not correct?

@liecdre I am in a similar circumstance. I am a senior applying ED for Physics, and much like your situation, the EFC is MUCH higher than my family can afford. That kind of puts a damper on the whole idea of early decision. That being said, my family decided this would be the best option for a few reasons relating to financial need.

Basically, after many conversations with admissions officers, and financial advisors, this is the conclusion that was made. When a student is admitted, along with their acceptance packet, you receive your financial aid package. This financial aid packet is made up of grants, scholarships, loans, and a total that must be paid by the family each year. If that total is still too high (as I assume it will be for many families), you can talk to WUSTL, and tell them that this price is still too high, and ask them again too look for any more grants or scholarships they can find. They will then send you a second FA Package, which hopefully is lower and more affordable. At this point, it is up to the family to make the final call.

This is the information we received before I hit submit on my ED application. I hope this helps a little. I am still a little shaky and (obviously) immature on the subject. But hopefully things will work out.

We also decided that there was absolutely no chance of me getting accepted unless I apply ED (I only have like a 29 on my ACT… yikes…). On top of this, there is a chance that “first come first serve” FA will be given to me on the off chance that they decide to admit me based on recs, EC’s, High school story and my valedictorian status.

Hope this helps a bit!
