Does anyone know when and how applicants are notified if they are a finalist for the Danforth Scholarship at WUSTL?
From what I can gather from a variety of posts from previous years, sometime in the next 2 weeks applicants will get a phone call inviting them to campus for the interview weekend at the end of March. The call signifies that you are at least a recipient of half scholarship. The weekend determines winners of the full scholarship, thus the “Scholars”. People can please correct me if I’m reading these posts wrong.
My daughter is a current Danforth scholar. She received a phone call from the head of the Danforth program congratulating her on her admissions and informing her she was a finalist. She then received emailed information (or maybe from the Wash U portal) about how to sign up for finalist weekend and travel arrangements, etc. It was a very exciting time!
@artmom6 my daughter received a Danforth finalist call last night. Does this mean they automatically are admitted and have a scholarship? Or will they only pick a few finalists to receive the scholarship?
@partyoffivemom Congrats! Your D will be invited to the campus as a finalist and then compete for the scholarship.
Any idea if the calls are done?
^^ is there like a phone number we could call to confirm or ask…
@partyoffivemom- Congratulations, your daughter has been accepted to WashU! Finalists’ weekend was a fun and supportive experience for my daughter- not too intense at all. In my daughter’s experience, the finalists were told when they arrived on campus that there was enough money for everyone to get something and some would get a full tuition scholarship. I don’t know if this is true every year of just her year. Kids were asked to never discuss what they received and that is honored in order to keep the Danforth community a very supportive one. What does your daughter hope to study?
@artmom6 Hi. I recently received the call for the Danforth scholarship. After doing a lot of research online, I have found little to nothing about the interview process and scholars weekend. Since your daughter also went to the weekend, could you possibly offer any insight on the process? Thank you.
@artmom6 thank you so much. Could you also clarify whether all finalists that attend receive some sort of scholarship or are some finalists cut and not given any merit scholarship?
@cece0622 and @partyoffivemom You will receive an schedule for the weekend. It included options for attending a class, a luncheon, an interview time, options for attending a performance and a number of activities with current Danforth students- I think they went bowling. My daughter stayed with a current Danforth and her roommate- both who were lovely girls. We did not know going into the weekend whether all finalists would receive some sort of scholarship or if some would be cut. I can only speak to my daughter’s experience and her year the group was quickly told that there would be money for everyone- and they wanted the kids to relax about the scholarship interview and just have fun and enjoy the weekend. I don’t know if that is true every year. My daughter had great time on the weekend- it was fun and exciting! She is close friends with a number of kids that she met on the weekend and felt (and still feels) like the Danforth cohort were a good match for who she is. Good luck and have fun! Let me know how it goes or if I can answer any additional questions.
My understanding is that finalists will get some merit aid.
