I also applied to the dual CS/business program but my acceptance said they could not fit me there and I would be accepted into the engineering school which is wonderful as well.

General Thoughts/Tips: ESSAYS!!!

My son planning to apply for ED2 . Can you give some recommendation on essays and what is unweighted GPA score they expect? It is great school

WashU only uses one supplemental essay; depending on which school you are applying to the topic may change slightly if you are applying for merit scholarships. When I visited I was told by admissions to make sure you don’t just summarize your topic of choice, but explain how it motivates you and how it will connect to your college experience.

In the supplemental essay make sure he explains why washu is uniquely a good fit for him (no copy and pasting from other essays). Also I read somewhere that the average gpa of accepted applicants is around a 3.9-4, but every applicant is different. Also this number might change based on the school they are applying to.

Decision: Accepted, School of Engineering

ACT: N/A
SAT II: N/A

Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Semi-Finalist; First Place National TSA (Technology Student Association) Conference plus an additional 3rd & 9th place finishes.

General Thoughts/Tips: Honestly, I wasn’t totally sure I could get in during the regular decision round so I went ED. Hope this info helps future applicants!

General Thoughts/Tips:
The demonstrated interest, having strong ACT and SAT subject scores, doing well in AP exams, school teacher recs, and summer lab experience all helped.
Essay was quite unique and well written. Supplement was pretty good too and did a nice job of talking about how D’s interests and Washu’s “&” approach are a great match.

The whole process is nerve racking and takes a lot of effort but is great for self discovery and helps you focus on what is important to you.

Decision: Accepted!!!

Portfolio:
Filled up 16/20 spots. Mainly paintings as that is what I am best at. I visited the school for a portfolio review and they told me it was very strong. I also got a rec letter from a parent there who is a working Artist.

General Thoughts/Tips:
I worked really hard on my essays. My supplement was about how art is the family business and everyone in my family is an artist. My common app essay was about getting my kidney out. I had a rec letter from my math teacher which think could have been a cool angle, since I have always struggled in math. I know I did not get in because of my stats as they are way lower than I have seen around.

Decision: accepted arts and sciences

Indeed @Hamurtle’s predictions seem spot on!
