Hi! Today WashU sent me an email stating that they were offering me a fee waiver for my ‘interest’ in the school. Yes, washU is one of my top schools for applications, but the only interest I’ve shown is sending them my ACT. Also, I don’t think I would qualify for financial aid.
Does this mean I have a better chance of getting into the college?
Do you think this is any sign that they’re more likely to give me merit?
No and no.
Hmm, then I wonder why they would have given me a free application. At least thats 75 dollars that gets to stay in my pocket!!
Boost the number of applications, keep acceptance numbers the same and the ‘selectivity’ number goes down, increasing odds for boosting ranking. They want more applications so they can turn more down and look more selective.
I know that’s a cynical take but it seems to be how the rankings game is played by some schools.
if its one of your top schools, you should apply! …the only way you will know if they will accept you and/or offer you aid is to apply…the fee waiver is a nice bonus for you
Apply! There are no supplements and it’s free! You already sent your ACT scores, what have you got to lose?
It’s a sign they want your application. Though there aren’t any supplemental essays there are application requirements for Merit Aid Scholarships. Also for the Danforth Scholarship your high school needs to nominate you and those nominations are due November 15th.
