Your stats look pretty good! I’d say you’d definitely be a competitive applicant, and it’s hard to know for sure, but I think you’d have a pretty great chance.

I had my WashU interview a few months back. My interview was actually with an undergraduate student. It was super chill, he just asked a few generic questions like “What are your strengths and weaknesses” and “Why WashU” and “How would you contribute to the WashU community”. I had a lot to talk about with my interviewer because he is majoring in what I intent to major in. Also, be sure to prepare a few questions to ask your interviewer, perhaps questions like “What’s the social scene like at WashU?” My interview was really short, it lasted only about 20 minutes. And it wasn’t too stressful. I’d say just prepare a bit for “Why WashU”, which I’m sure you already have plenty of reasons for  Don’t worry about it too much, it’ll all turn out okay. Good luck!

I caught this a bit on the later side, but as far as the interview goes (and for anyone else who needs interview advice), they are extremely laid back. I did mine on campus when I visited and it didn’t last more than 10 minutes. My interviewer asked me about the activities I did and why I wanted to come to WashU–that was about it. Don’t stress about it, like the person before said, everything will come out okay!

You’ve got a good chance. You have 2 hooks.
You are African American, and you are of the first generation to go to college. You have a decent GPA and a decent test score with ample APs. Your ECS are weak. The fact that you are from California and applying for financial aid are also slight negatives. You have a shot; and you would add to the diversity of the institution. The question is whether there is enough interest in WashU that you will stay there for the next 4 years. They are trying to up the percentage of Pell grants.
