Hey,
We are going to need to purchase a watch before plebe summer, correct? Any suggestions on a good watch?

we're allowed to wear watches?

i think in the permit to report packet it listed a watch under the things to bring

I think this is one of those things that may vary by company. It was suggested not to wear an expensive watch for Plebe summer. An inexpensive watch with a fabric band was recommended. After Plebe Summer, my son bought a nice watch in the Mid Store. They have a good selection.

Hard to be on time without a watch. I recommend anything in the Casio "G-Shock" line. They are nearly indestructable, which is a good thing to look for in a plebe summer watch.

Nah. You should bring one. Sometimes the different platoons will play games like "only one watch for the whole platoon, so 'watch-guy' better make sure everyone is on time," but for the most part, you are allowed to an should wear a watch.

Good point, I hadn't thought that you would have a different one for the school year than you do for plebe summer. My parents are thinking of buying me an expensive watch for my graduation present. Would this be a bad thing? Would it be good to wear a cheap watch during plebe summer and then wear a more expensive one during the school year?

Have your parents bring your nice watch to Parents Weekend. The activities during Plebe Summer will be tough on a nice watch. The cheaper the better for the summer. I would check out the inexpensive watches at a discount store for the summer. It will get dirty and it will get wet!

Just make sure it is very plain, of a plain color (black, navy). I know my daughter had a (what I thought was a basic) Nike watch in navy and was told at NAPS that it was too eccentric. (???) Anyway, you just don't want to get any attention. :)

Most companies will not allow you to wear a watch during plebe summer. They will most likely collect them as well as your alarm clocks on the first day so bring one since it is on the list but dont expect to use it.

Hey everyone,
I am just now wrapping up plebe year at the academy and deepthroat has it right. G-shocks are great IF you're allowed to have them. My company took all of our watches on I-Day. We couldn't even wear them AFTER plebe summer until everyone in the company had one as well. I would recommend not bothering with one at the outset, it's just one more thing to get you some unwanted attention. If your company does decide to change its policy then have your parents send you one ASAP. (My experience is that this will most likely NOT happen...) Either way, good luck and have fun while you can!

They take your watches and alarm clocks. Do not buy one. Wait until Plebe Parent's Weekend and then get a nice one for a small price at the Mid store.

BTW, Luminox Watches are the best. They are like $200 in the Mid store, but they go for about $350 in the real world!

i brought a g-shock and kept it throughout the summer... i suggest bringing one because if it gets taken away you arent gonna lose it forever... and ive rarely heard of companies losing priveleges like that past plebe summer.
