I should have started long ago, but i wasn't sure if i should apply, now that there are 3 days left, i am wondering whether i can get the recs (haven't asked yet) on time. So i just wanna know if it's okay for me to send common app rec letters instead of using Stanford's form. If i can't then i don't know if i'll apply at all......
i've heard stories of rejected 1600's, but can someone give give me a realistic evaluation of my chance, appreciate it:

I have sufficient financial support (abit over the required), but i'll ask for aid none the less (wise?)
The common app recs that i have are okay, the essay, well, i'll see what i pull together in 3 days......
I don't want to miss out and sorry for not applying later on....so i need some help....plz.......thanx.

well use the same rec letters, but just get the teachers to sign Stanford's reference form and check off the boxes and yeah just apply for finincial aid (it can't hurt)

I think it would be acceptable (though not ideal) to staple the common app letters instead of filling out Stanford's own, because some schools have policies where teachers can only fill out the school's standard rec letter, etc. (to save them time). If you can get them to fill out all of Stanford's own checkboxes though.

If your teachers have typed their responses to the common app recs and have them saved on a computer, I'm sure they wouldn't mind modifying their answers just slightly to answer Stanford's questions.

I've heard that Stanford's admissions are NOT need-blind for international students, so I would say don't check the fin-aid box. (Can someone verify that, though?)

don't apply for fin aid if you're international (it's not need-blind), and you have very good ECs, nothing spectacular but definitely above average.

oh....btw, the city level awards listed in ec are for decathlon and swimming respectively, not awards in their own right...the display's kind of confuse......thanks for the advice.

"I should have started long ago, but i wasn't sure if i should apply, now that there are 3 days left, i am wondering whether i can get the recs (haven't asked yet) on time."

You can totally use the common app letters of rec. In fact, that's what I did. Just get your teachers to print out what they wrote on your common app on a separate piece of paper, staple it to Stanford's form, and write "See Attached."

I also did all of Stanford's essays on the day they were due and rushed to the post office at 11:30. I ended up getting in.

P.S. I only scored 30 more points than you on the SAT and I was one rank higher. My unweighted GPA was a 4.0. So go for it and apply!

don't want to start a new thread here....anyway, i'm just wondering where should i put Academic Decathlon on the app, it seems that it should go under Academic Honors and Programs but since decathlon is a more year long thing, i thought maybe it should go under ec's?

For Academic Decathlon-- I put mine under ECs. But the way it is at my school, we meet independently with our coaches after school during first semester before competition, and then that's it.

I'm in the same situation as you dude and by looking at that page, I think that all we need to submit, and submit them real soon, is our student info form. The recs and transcript can be done later (they will notify people if they are missing materials anyway).

Now all i have to do is start and finish the app in less than 24 hours, heh.
