Anybody receive any paperwork regarding MedStart yet besides the e-mail invitation?

Hi I have decided to take another program so someone will get off the waitlist just letting you all know

Premedfuture have u already told the school? I’m high on the waiting list so just wondering:)) btw what program have decided on if u don’t mind me asking ??

Um I haven’t informed WSU yet, but I will when I submit my SIR. I decided to go with the Molecular Biology/Bioinformatics program at the University of California San Diego (UCSD).

oh okay:) my cousin goes there and he loves the campus

hey I just emailed Mrs. Galster at WSU that I will not be taking the seat. Best of luck

Thanks! I got a call from her today telling me. Although I have a choice now between a bs/md in Texas where Im from and Wayne state loll r u from the San Diego area? I grew up in LA and the bay area and I miss it haha

i havea question guys. i have a 3.833 as a freshman right now. does this mean i cant do medstart? please reply

I would pull your gpa up some but there’s no reason you shouldn’t apply. Besides you’re a freshman, you’ve got some time left. My advice is to really get some great medical volunteer work over the summe if you can. That always helps!

anybody who got into this program or applied - could you please post your stats and extracurriculars? also, how difficult would you say this program is to get into compared to the other bs/mds out there?

The acceptance rate 2 years ago was 4.5% (15/330)- lowest ever for MedStart. This year that number got a lot larger. Less and less kids are applying because of the 10/10/10 MCAT rule. Don’t let that deter you from applying. Yes, its hard, but Wayne does have a lot to offer. It’s not a bad place at all. It, as any other school, is what you make of it. Do the best wherever you are, and you’ll get where you need to go in life. Our program isn’t binding. This past year we had students get into med schools like Duke (full ride), Johns Hopkins, UChi, and Michigan (3 from the senior class). Two years ago, a MedStart alum got accepted into Harvard Med. Our upcoming seniors will be going big places too. MedStart is all about how much effort you want to put in. It’s advantageous because our students see how hard their peers are working. That along with the extra time we have allows us to put in the time needed to study for the MCAT. I haven’t taken my MCAT, but I know that since I have planned my schedule accordingly that I’ll have enough time to prepare. It’s all about the effort here. We learn from each other and from the school. I don’t regret my decision to come here. There have been a few times where I’ve worked this hard in life. The material isn’t hard, but I have the motivation to go out and do my best. I want what’s best for me. Everyone else does too. If I end up at Wayne Med, I will be perfectly fine with that. We have a damn good med school here. The training you receive with the immense number of hospitals is incredible. I’ll admit the social life at Wayne is not what you get in Ann Arbor. At the same time, Detroit is such a great city if you go to the right places. The downtown is so beautiful with its wonderful restaurants, skyscrapers, music scene, art scene and sports stadiums. Yahoo! recently put Detroit on a list of comeback cities to watch out for, and some magazine ranked it in the top 10 cities in America. This school, like any other, is what you make of it. Come and find out what we have to offer.

rackcity, you can build it up. Do your best.

Any one got interview notification for group of 30?

Let’s see if someone will answer…

I am going to apply, but I don’t understand how to format a recommendation letter. Do I just ask the counselor, teacher, outside school person, etc. to type something nice for me? Or will MedStart provide a question?

Ask the person to write a really good rec letter. We look at those closely btw.

thank you so much Ilove. My stats are ACT 34, SAT 2270 (800 math, 800 reading, 670 writhing) SAT subject Math II 800, physics 740. I’m a national merit semifinalist (possible finalist) I live in MI. Had tutoring, shadowing and hospital volunteering (200 + hours). I also play piano (12 years) clarinet ( 7 years) with symphony. What is the chance for me to get into MedStart? many thanks
