Hi, anyone applying to the MedStart program at WSU this year? What are your stats? I really want to get in but I'm REALLY nervous! Do you think that they really base their first cut on just academics? (Such as low ACT or GPA, even though they meet minimum req's)?

Why would you go bump up every MedStart thread? This one is more than enough to get attention to the program.

I am applying and I would assume that the first cut is based upon academic record and whether you have a decent amount of med ECs, ECs, etc. I think at the interview stage the committee will start to look more at personality and subjective factors.

I applied. Good luck to everyone else!

Thanks batpad, good luck to you too! I havent applied yet, but definitely will! Did you send in everything in one envelope?

Hey, I am applying too!

For those of you who already applied, what did you do for the minimum requirements? Did you submit an extended resume? Activity List?

What are y’all stats?

I am planning to submit any activity list like the COmmonApp’s so that I can include hours and stuff too.

Shouldn’t this thread be 'Class of ‘15’ since we’re referring to the university program?

And this thread is awfully quiet. In the past, the WSU MedStart threads had many pages. We gotta pick up the slack!

hahah well I started posted on the thread from last year.
is anyone else really nervous?
I am. The deadline is coming up and I am still waiting on one of my letters.
Good luck to everyone!
are most people applying from around the Detroit area?

woo woo! let’s get this party (i mean “thread”) started. yes, gillian2011, i am quite nervous. i am thinking about mailing in my stuff around jan 3rd or so.

I planned on mailing mine in around that time as well but that is not going to happen for me. One of the doctors I volunteer with was suppose to write me a recommendation letter but he did not have time and he is on vacation until the third. I hope he will have some time when he gets back to write it but he is a busy guy so i’ll just keep my fingers crossed! Hopefully they will applications if they are at least sent out by Jan. 15th. If worse comes to worse, I will drive my application down there on the 15th. I will investigate it.
Also, are you applying to any other programs at other schools or are you going to wayne for sure?

^lol… at least you can drive down your application. I live on the other side of the country… :(

really? where are you from?
It’s only a two-ish hour drive for me.

^California. Unfortunately, getting into these programs is nearly impossible for me, as most programs give heavy preference to in-state students…

I hope that isn’t the case for you
Good luck!
On the brightside at least you are in California and not my small hick-town!
loll jk my town isn’t that bad. Michigan is just a little chilly right now.

hahah good luck to you too buddy!

I’m going to drive down there and drop of everything. I live just about 30-45min. away depending on traffic. I want to try to drop it all off around the 10th, but we’ll see how things go.

EDIT: Question: For the Scholar’s Days (particularly the February one that includes MedStart), are there only a certain amount of people allowed? I mean, if I book my date late do I run the risk of not getting a spot or should I be fine?

I just submitted my scholars day essay and there were still around 250 spots open on the feb. 12th date

Eh, gotta finish that. Almost done with it!

hey, i submitted my wayne state thing a month ago and my decision is still pending. how long do they take to process stuff? i believe i am way over the qualifications for wsu regular undergrad…medstart - different story.
