Wayne State MedStart C/O 2011

My guess is email. If I recall correctly they first invite you to an honors college event from which they choose the top thirty to interview at the med school.

I was told it would be by email and good luck to you too!

The odds of getting an interview are pretty good since only about 150 applied this year. We have a 1 in 3 chance of getting an interview.

@ rlpak14 Really! Did Wayne reveal how many applications were received

Word to those applying in the future: don’t be a dbag please. Today was the top 50 interview and i talked to two kids who straight up told me with a cocky attitude that their interview went well, but they’re going to UofM regardless. The attitude was ridiculous. They won’t be advancing to top 30, and that’s a guarantee. We all know that you’re great and amazing and can go anywhere. The whole point of top 50 is to cut down the socially awkward smart kids and the incompetent fools who are dumb enough to admit during their interview day that they dont want to go here. If you’re neither one of those, you have a good chance of advancing to top 30. Good luck to those who made it thus far.

It is unfortunate that my son did not make it into the top 50. Of course I am biased but even his school counselor was surprised. Medstart was his top choice. Had he been given the opportunity to interview you could have seen that he is neither socially awkward nor foolish and would have been humbled and truly appreciative of the opportunity to advance to the top 30. We will be attending our Student Day on March 7th as Wayne State University continues to be an excellent option for him as does the University Of Michigan.

^^ Our child did not get an interview too .:frowning: Not sure what are the considerations for the top 50.

Heard that the notifications to the top 30 are going out. Anyone heard anything yet?

Has anyone heard back from Wayne Medstart? I realize interviews were only mid of last week, but they were very quick to send second round invites after the first round interviews. Does anyone know when the decisions will be announced?

@fx80sam Haven’t from Wayne medstart yet. The results should be out this week?

I am a current high school junior. I am confused about the benefits of this program. You are not really guaranteed a spot at Wayne State’s medical school since you have to achieve a 30 on the MCAT. So how is medstart different from applying for medical school the normal way?

^^^
because normal way or say “not in medstart” you can get a score of 30 on MCAT and still not get into medical school.

For those of you that got into Medstart… How high do my testing stats have to be for me to have a good chance at acceptance? Like what range is good for SAT/ACT and are subject tests necessary? And how many med ECs are they looking for?

For those of you who were admitted into the program. What do you think the first cut was based on? From the earlier posts it seems like GPA and test scores play a big factor. I would greatly appreciate any tips and advice. Thanks!

Just a word of advice for future applicants to MedStart: it is getting much more difficult to gain acceptance into this program. The application process is extremely competitive and more out of state students are advancing through the competition. I had a 34 ACT, 4.2 GPA, with over 200 hours of research, shadowing, and volunteering, two varsity sports and several leadership positions, but I didn’t even get an interview for the top 50. Anyways, good luck to all the other applicants this year, and I hope this post helps provide a baseline for future applicants to this program.
