Hey everybody! I am senior currently and I was just wondering if I hold any possible chance at the MedStart program offered by Wayne State. I go to a really small high school where students are not very bright so the resources to succeed is minimal. I tried my best...I know I will not get in but do I have a chance at all? Plz help...

I do not know about this program, I am familiar with other combined programs. Was it typo, or you do have ACT=28? How did you manage that with this GPA? This ACT below radar of all programs that I know. Otherwise, you are fine. I hope you mistyped your score. Best wishes anyway.

Oh haha…no it’s not a typo. I tend to be a bad test taker overall so to get a 28 on my third attempt (26 first, 24 second) on the Act was huge for me. I am sure that other ppl on this forum have amazing scores but I am kind of content with that. I was debating on taking it a fourth time and I want to know if it is good or just overdoing it…I want to get 30+…Score breakdown for the third time was 34 english, 28 math, 23 reading, 25 science, and 10 writing. I always do bad on reading and science…any tips perhaps for my fourth and final attempt…Thanx

Based on D’s experience, it is impossible to improve reading, and ACT science is practically also reading, just at slower pace. D’s weakness is also reading. She knew that she could not do anything about it, so she focused on math instead to compensate for reading. Actually she did prep only for math. She said that English is just common sense (and she ended up with highest in English, just like you did). She was able to get 34 on math which compensated enough for much worse reading score. She did not prepare for science either because she could handle reading at slower pace in this section and she also got 34 in science. She prepared for about 1hr/day for one week by taking math practice tests and going over incorrect answers. Based on your results and GPA, I would say that apparently you can improve your math and you are obviously slow reader, which I do not know how to improve. D. took ACT once and got enough to get into combined program at different school. Apply widely. Best wishes.

I guess you can say that I am a slow reader for Act style reading but the readings I do for AP classes is quite simple and less time consuming. In fact, I did well on AP Language & Composition exam which had harder multiple choice reading questions. I guess the matter is that I tend to run out of time when it is very crucial on these kinds of tests. Therefore, I am also going to practice a little everyday for reading and science so I could potentially hit all the sections equally to improve my scores. I guess I just have to work hard to get what I want. Thank You for the response and I appreciate the advise.
