I was wondering what I could be doing now to gain experience in either the field of finance or accounting? I'm in my second year of school, so I haven't taken any particular finance classes, but I have taken financial accounting and am currently taking managerial accounting. Unfortunately, I decided to take financial accounting online last semester and don't feel as though I've gained all I could have if I were take it face to face and silly me, I'm taking managerial accounting online, but I guess what's done is done. So again, what could I do to gain experience in finance/accounting fields? Any suggestions other than bookkeeping? Or if you guys could give me links to other forums or websites that specifically deal with what I'm asking that'd be appreciated as well.

You could apply for bookkeeping jobs or prepare taxes

Well unfortunately bookkeeping is a good way…Check if the Big 4 extend summer internships to sophmores. You can apply for F500 corporate internships but in my experience most are limited to juniors +. Locally you can look for small boutiques or PWMs like ML, Wells Fargo etc.

Big 4 doesn’t hire soph interns. They host their respective leadership conferences. I went to two of them and landed my internship for this summer after completing the program. Definitely worth it needless to say.

^ for the record, the summer leaderships are also sometimes after junior year. It depends on if you’re in a 4 year or 5 year program (CPA eligible after bachelor’s or master’s)
