We all know college beds suck, but how do we make them better?

In engineering terms, when you run out of space in two dimensions, you must use the third dimension. Alot.

Can you cut memory foam in half? My roommate and I are thinking of buying a king from overstock.com and cutting it in half.

Intrestingly enough, it looks like most of overstock's memory foam toppers cost the same for a twin and for a king, so yeah, you should get the big one. If for whatever reason you couldn't cut it you could still fold it in half and get double, I guess.

chuy: If you're actually trying to sleep with someone (in the literal sense of the word), then three dimensions is even worse, haha.

get a tempurpedic pad....
i will be parting with my queen size tempurpedic 9" mattress soon :(

too expensive. i'm probably just going to do the fiberbed and egg crate, simply because its about a total of 6 inches (3" fiberbed, ~3" egg crate) of loft and it's still on the cheaper side. You can't get 6" of memory foam for $80, and it just seems like a waste to get a fiberbed and then a whopping inch of foam for more than the fiberbed+egg crate.

Oh it can be done eph, and all that space between you and the ceiling can still be used. Get creative! haha.

Shoebox: You COULD get a 2 inch memory foam King for $80 and then fold it over, giving you four inches of memory foam. I think you'd come just a little short of covering the whole bed, but it's still beat the fiberbed, I believe.

Shoebox: I don't know if it would fully cover two twins, but memory foam CAN be cut pretty easily.

If you get a King (76x80) and cut it in half you'll have 2 38x80 pieces. A twin extra long (most college beds are this size) is 39x80. You'll be short an inch, but that isn't that bad. Cali kings are longer but not as wide.

That's what I was planning to do. But it seems like a waste to put such expensive foam under a fiberbed. I think an eggcrate would be better because its cheaper, I dont care if I throw it away at the end of the year, and it will give me more lift for a lesser price. I did fine with the eggC last year, so I only need a bit more. 3" fiberbed plus the eggC and some comfy pillows will probably be heaven. If it sucks in the long run, it'll only be $15 down the drain and i'll just buy another eggC and have two plus the fiberbed. If the memory foam sucks, i'm out $40-$80.
