Also, from what I gather there are no tours of the dorms. Is there anyway to see what the dorms look like?

when i visited this past summer our tour group got to see one dorm...idk if that's changed or not but you'll prob. get to see one.

if you do an overnight visit, you can actually stay in the dorms, and usually your host is willing to take you to the other dorms, like the ones their friends are in. Thats what i did, i got to see a couple of them, which i found really valuable.

as for locations, i loved getting to see the rock. it was kind of a hub for student life anyway, there was always a ton of kids there and it was fun to see people "guarding the rock". it was the best way i learned about student life. :)

Yes, go see the rock, and Deering Library, modeled after a chapel at England's prestigious Cambridge University-gorgeous! Also, take a stroll through The Arch, and make sure to find a sidewalk with advertisements on it (most schools use boards, Northwestern tapes ads to the ground...kinda cool).

ya I know what you mean all the info/pictures online of dorms SUCK! to get a good look I would say ask a kid to let you in to see his/her room or stay overnight. Honestly I would go all the dorms that you can. Oh ya i would go down to the rocks near the lake and just sit there staring at the downtown skyline...pretty nice.

But if you really want to see what the NU experience is like you should come during winter when it is FReezing/snowing/sleeting lol
Ya fall and summer are good but oh boy winter quarter sucks

You can totally find pictures of plex if you google them. Some kid posted a bunch for some reason.

Norris, it's on south campus.

I'd try and do an overnight, it's the best experience imo.

You should take a look at Pancoe :) It's really pretty imo.

-lower level of Norris to the back by Sbarro (North part of building) where you could see a really nice view of the lake.
-from there, walk south to the exit facing Pick-Staiger Concert Hall and Block Museum of Art. It's a gorgeous area... if you walk far enough, you'd see the Chicago skyline. Or, if you have some time, make an immediate right after exiting Norris to the path leading to the Lakefront. Nicest part of campus in my opinion.

Also not to miss: just walk up and down Sheridan Road to get a feel for the campus in general. You will see the dorms to the West and campus buildings to the East. The open space in front of Deering Library/Kellogg is gorgeous. People often play frisbee there. Farther north are brand new-looking engineering buildings. Walk far enough to see Henry Crown Sports Pavilion. On the second floor is an indoor track overlooking the lake. Oh how I love this place.

This is a definately a do not miss! My brother was a student tour guide when he attended NU. If you walk down Sheridan and head towards the seminary across from the Sheil Catholic Center, there is a walk way that will lead you to the Shakespere garden. Here, every flower that Shakespere ever mentioned in any of his plays/sonnets is planted. It is absolutely beautiful. But I don't know if it will be in bloom when you go. It is peaceful and that is where my brother would study if he needed time alone. Also, everyone says meet at the arch like the arch has bben there forever, its only been there since 1993. That was a big suprise when I heard that. Freshmen dorms suck by the way. My brother was the President of ASG (the student government) and his office was at the top of Norris and that had the best view of the lake / lake fill. Just enjoy NU, it is probably the most wonderful campus in the world. But, I don't know if you can do this but my brother worked as SAE (Sigma Alpha Epsilon) their national head quarters is on campus, across from the Norris parking lot and it is amazing. All of the stained glass is Tiffany and worth millions. Like I said, he took us in and I don't know if you can go in but if you can, do it.

yea definitely don't miss the Deering Library...

Annie Mae Swift is gorgeous inside. Definitely worth seeing.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. We are looking forward to visiting this week!
