so after our daughter’s first year of ID DAAP and her issues in the dorm, we bought a house. it is a great investment. it is a multi-family house which she will use as a single family home. 5 bedrooms, a full unfinished basement, 2 full eat in kitchens, 2 family rooms and 2 full baths. she has 4 girlfriends that will be renting rooms. it is in a safe and perfect location, walking distance to DAAP and on the UC bus route. when we purchased the home it also included a vacant lot next to the house which we will be adding off street parking. we are so excited for our daughter. if her friends decide down the road not to rent anymore we will have the option of renting part of the house since there is a door that separates both units.
Great idea and your daughter is very fortunate that you can do that. The houses around UC are not always nice or safe so you will have that comfort.
I just visited the campus a week ago (for orientation) and I’m surprised at not only how much has changed, but also how much still looks the same. For example, in the Corryville areas where I rented (roughly 35 years ago), things look like they haven’t changed much at all. In other words, pretty run-down. I rented some pretty ratty apartments back then (they were clean and comfortable, but old – plumbing and fixtures were old; cockroaches, etc).
the house we bought is in the heights…we checked out all the areas for safety, etc., and this was a very safe area or i would not be letting my daugther live there
