Weak EC's by junior year...

Hi everyone!

I’m a junior in high school and am starting to get caught up in the college craze. I feel that I don’t have any great extracurriculars, especially because so many of my friends have been talking about their 100 hour mission trips or how they’re in 5+ clubs. Personally, I enjoyed my last two years but I didn’t look forward and now I feel that if I join some clubs or start some community service, it will look like I’m desperate for something for my colleges resumes (which I am). What would you guys suggest I do? I’m in French Honor Society, have been playing a varsity sport since freshmen year and am on track to be captain senior year.

My grades aren’t spectacular at all… I have a 3.6 UW GPA for freshmen/sophomore year and got a 1470 on the SAT but I will be taking it a second time this year. Would love to hear suggestions of what you think would be most beneficial for me to spend my time on in terms of these EC’s. Thanks!

By the way, I know it might be hopeless but in the back of mind, I have dream schools that are quite competitive. I would appreciate any advice that would help me in admissions against others that are applying to top schools.

Hah, im in the exact same scenario. At this point, it’s best to play towards your strengths rather than join random clubs for the sake of admissions. Thinking about the way the admit officers see your application, they want to be able to group someone into a category immediately, because they are making an amazing class, not just a bunch of well rounded 5 club students. They want people that shine in their specific fields, so for you I’d try to get a job related to your sport, or start some type of service project with your team. Hope this helps, and rip junior year lol.
