Weak gpa, but strong EC

I've been browsing the Emerson forums with people talking about their acceptance at emerson versus their statistics.. and am very disheartened to see basically everyone having something like a 3.8 gpa plus 5 billion ecs. I only have a 3.2 gpa.. does that mean that I have absolutely no chances of gaining acceptance there?

I want to major in film in college. I have pretty good ECs in film. I.e., my first film got accepted into two film festivals, and I'm starting an internship with pbs which will result in having some of my work being shown on channel 13. I also plan to continue making films throughout high school. Will this even out my sucky gpa enough to gain acceptance?

Thanks.

techgirl1213 want to hear my story?

I decided I wanted to be a film student the summer before senior year.

I had a GPA of 3.3 and had very little EC.

Boston Marathon 3 years
Anatomy Club 1 year
Writer's Block 1 year
Literary Magazine 2 years
Junior Statesmen of America 2 years
Stock Club 2 years
Vacation Bible School 2 years
Year Movie <- only for senior year

my SAT score was 1870

I wrote my script for the creative submission the night before and the essays the night before.

I paid the application bill and I went to sleep. This was the last day it was due.

The day after at 2 PM I'm checking my email and I find out I paid but didn't submit my application. I FREAKED OUT.

I gave the admission staff a email stating why it was a day late.

Keep in mind I also applied to only four colleges. NYU (first choice) BU (only because friend told me to) Ithaca (I like Ithaca) and Emerson (2nd choice)

I would have applied to USC but...that was WAAAAAAAAAAAY out of my league.

My first quarter grades senior year were Horrible.

Physics Honors: D-
AP stats: D-
AP BIo: C+
Intro Calc Honors: D+
Spanish 4 Honors: B+
English Level 3 (AKA idiot english. I needed an easy class): A
Physical Education: A

A few months later I got rejection letters from BU and NYU. I was furious.

Then I got accepted to Ithaca and I thought I'd be going there. I thought I had absolutely no chance of getting into Emerson.

A week later I got my Acceptance letter from Emerson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was so PSYCHED!!!!!

So techgirl1213 never lose hope. and besides, I'm sure you'll get in if I did.

Thanks for that... I feel a lot better now hearing someone with less-than-perfect numbers getting into Emerson.

I can't believe you got into Emerson but not BU, though. BU is supposed to be easier to get into.

College admissions are so random...

I think BU's starts are higher than Emerson, espicially after this past year of brutle admissions. But that definately gives me hope for transfer though. But it seems like you DO have a decent amount of extra carr. activities, and even though your essays were done the night before do you believe they were well written?

I'm transfering as a sping 2008 freshman and I'm hoping my SAT doesn't carry a lot of weight esp. if I do well my first semester at Quinnipiac. My SAT's are horrid, a lot worse than yours. I'm so confused though they told me to apply now.. fine they'll just wait til my recs but what grades do they base their decission on if the app is due Nov 1st? Do colleges give midterm grades?

I don't know anything about transfer. You should ask the Admissions Office.

and I plan on transferring to USC if I can.

To think the past 3 years I wanted to be a surgeon...pppsshhhh. Medicine, Business and Politics are so overrated. LOL

I hear film and acting at Emerson are almost entirely talent-based. You seem pretty impressive. I wouldn't worry.

@ Iheartpacman

really? That's a indirect compliment to me. LOL. I guess I am pretty good after all.
