Weak in Math..

I'm looking towards majoring in Psychology or in some area of History, and my courses, along with grades in those areas are consistently high. However, I seem to get murdered in Math, with an occasional C.

I am worried because instead of a well-rounded person (whom colleges want) my grades seem to show that I am interested in one area while weak in another. How do colleges see this? I'm a Junior, and I'm horrified by my Math grade this semester. Am I too late?

I have big dreams in terms of colleges that I wish to apply, but Math really seems to kill me.

Well, in terms of school like HYPS, they won’t like a C at all. They have a lot of qualified applicants to choose from who are strong in all areas, so your application just won’t stand out. (This is assuming that you’re unhooked.)

However, there are many prestigious and well known LAC that would most likely be more generous in looking over your weakness in math and seeing the “real you.” IF you really are an excellent well rounded student with lots of ECs, I’m sure you’ll be able to get in somewhere that you will love. Don’t give up!

Also, you might consider writing your essay about your struggles in math and how it has affected you. Just an idea; obviously it would have to be written in a way so it didn’t sound like you were making excuses for your grades.

What math class are you in? If you could somehow raise that C to a B- or a B, it wouldnt look so bad if it was AP Calc or Honors Precalc or something.
