Why do people this? I see people walking around still wearing Cal or UCLA sweaters and I'm just like, "***...how about a UCSD sweater?"

But then when I see someone wearing an Oregon Ducks or Tennessee Volunteers t shirt/sweater, I think "Oh, that dude is probably from there or a fan of that team."

Am I to assume that people that wear other UC sweaters are just bitter and people that wear OOS sports gear are just fans?

I don’t know, I guess my first reaction when I see other UC sweaters, I think, “Hey man, have some pride and wear some UCSD gear when you’re on campus.” When prospective students see a bunch of students wearing UCSD clothing, it shows the student body loves the school.

I guess I don’t pay as much attention if the school actually has a specific slogan like, “Oregon Ducks Football” cause they’re probably football fans of the school, which is understandable considering UCSD doesn’t have a team and all.

You don’t think there’s enough UCSD sweatshirts out there already to be satisfying? Every day I seriously see like 2-3 out of every 10 people wearing one almost. I’m sometimes one of them :)

A sweatshirt’s merely an item of clothing. These people probably accumulated more than a few during college tours, received other via gifts, etc. You’re telling them to change how they dress because you think it decreases school spirit? There are plenty of better ways to express that. If UCSD thought they could raise their image by having an army of sweatshirt-sporting students, they would be handing them out with the aggression of a calpirg recruiter.

(for what it’s worth, i only wear UCSD sweatshirts at my current snobby ivy league graduate institution)

If you wear another schools sweater and you are a grad student, that doesn’t count, period. If you are in my discussion as an undergrad wearing another schools sweater, then go to that school. If you like their football enough to wear their sweater, you should have gone there, and if you didn’t get in, that is sad. HEY GUYS, IMA WEAR STANFORD ERRWHERE CAUSE OF THEIR PERCEIVED PRESTIGE AND FOOTBALL AND CAUSE MY PARENTS WENT THERE, CAUSE THEY DID. my father went to Stanford, I got accepted to cal mech engineering, dont be a loser and wear other schools sweaters unless you have gone there or possibly have a sibling go there, any other reason is unacceptable

why do people act like everyone has to dress to their standards? people can wear whichever college sweater they desire. anyone who has a problem with it can either do something about it or ****…

Students like prionviroid = why UCSD has a bad rep for being a loser, anti social, pride-less school with unattractive, passive aggressive student body.

@Ron. ucsd has a bad rep because of students like you, who put too much into really inconsequential things like what type of winter gear people throw on before trudging to classes. Really now, You create a fanatical divide where it really doesnt matter. You spread the bad-rep vibes around

point of this thread is this: the percentage of people wearing other school sweaters is disproportionately high at ucsd, and there is a correlation between this and those students not getting into the school they wanted. I personally know 4 ppl that wanted to go to cal so bad, don’t have relatives that go there and always wear cal sweaters. Yes there are outliers in every sample, like ppl who’s sibling gave them the sweater, from other schools, etc. IMO this topic was aimed at those individuals that take a liking to lowering the school spirit by wearing Harvard sweaters in my undergrad discussions. I distincely remember when I toured campuses, the percentage of ppl wearing usc, ucla, and cal sweaters at ucsd was disproportionally higher than all the other schools I toured, especially the schools with D1 football teams (my friends absolutely hate other schools with football teams and would never wear their sweaters, they would literally choose death over wearing another sweater) don’t wear other school’s sweaters unless you are proud to be somehow affiliated with that school (and not on the reject list)

Who cares? Why is it so important to put so much weight into what name is on someone’s chest? Im sure individuals are not out to ‘lower’ pride by wearing other schools names as a sort of “Suck it UCSD” belief. And even if they are, there are a lot more important things to be worrying about than the clothes your fellow classmates are wearing. Get with it.
