Ok so I really love the idea of Cornell, but I have never been to Ithaca(I am going in late March). Will the March temperatures be cold enought to give me an idea of what to expect? Also, how cold does it get in general? I am from Oregon, so I am not used to lots of snow (just rain). How does the climate differ comapred to the Pacific NW? Thanks!

How are the dorms (especially for freshman)? Have they been updated recenlty? Should I try to spend the night while I'm there in March?

Thanks!

do a forum search!

freshman year snow was on the ground until late april...

i'd look at the weather forecast before packing...

Temperatures are generally in the lower 40s in March, so this probably will not give you a good feel for Ithaca's winter temperatures, which are usually in the 20s. There are occasionally large, abrupt fluctuations, however. There were quite a few nights last month with sub-zero temperatures. On the other hand, on Wednesday last week it was raining and 56 degrees, and yesterday it was 28.

So. like resurgam said, I would definitely check the weather before packing. It could be sunny and in the 50s, or below freezing!

the dorms for freshman are fine. Some of them are new some aren't. I live in one of the not new ones and the rooms are decent.

March temps are nothing what the winters are like! Anywhere between 10 and 20 is regular Ithaca weather for winter...And of course, lots of snow.

Freshman dorms are fine...Especially if you can get lucky enough to get a suite! If dorms aren't you thing, check out the coops. My brother lived in the Triphammer Coop all 4 years at Cornell and absolutely loved it!

march won't be really indicative of an ithaca winter. it's started warming up a tad a couple of weeks ago. this was a cold one, too.

the west dorms are new, i believe. i've only been there a few times to people's places, and they seemed very nice, new, and clean. small rooms, though. i think the north dorms are older, but a the rooms i've seen were bigger.
