Can anyone tell me what the weather is like at Haverford? When does winter start and how long does it last? How cold is it in the fall...enough to wear jackets?

I'll be going to Haverford from South Asia, so I dont have the faintest idea about the weather there....plz help!

I grew up around there so I guess I am as good an expert as anyone.

If you're not used to cool weather, you might need a light jacket even when everyone else is in shirts. For you that could be in the morning and evening by late September. But it still gets really nice in the afternoon -- you could be back in shorts by the afternoon.

Go to the Haverford wesite and click on "Student Life" -- there's a picture of some students hanging out -- the leaves have changed and are falling -- that picture was probably taken in October. You're going to find yourself in layers again, because of the range of temps in the daytime. Too bad you can't click on the picture and make it larger -- but you can see how they are dressed.

Again, if you're not used to four seasons, you might think it's winter in November without the snow. By the end of November, it can get close to freezing at night (32F, 0C), but usually doesn't. One year there was a freaky HUGE snowstorm in November, but that's really rare.

Definitely winter temps in December, but not a lot of snow. Usually the coldest and snowiest months are January and February. There's a saying that "March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb." Cold in the beginning and getting nice by the end.

You will definitely have enough time to buy stuff once you are here. That way you can go out with new friends and get something stylish. But stores sell clothes ahead of the season -- right now all summer clothes are their lowest sale prices and the first fall clothes are in stores.
