What is the winter weather like at UR?
I know Virginia is hot & humid in the summer, but that is all people generally tell me.

Winters are pretty mild b many standards. Rough compared to say, southern California or Miami.
Hot in August
Hot, then mild in Sept
Leaves peak during the last 10 days of October.
It would be unusual to get snow before the end of the fall semester.
January can be cold.
Weather gets better in March. Trees are budding now.
Leaves come back in April.

Winter 09-10 was a colder than normal & unusually snowy, about 35", which is probably as much as the past 5 or 6 winters combined.

February is generally the coldest month, and when you’ll, on average, see the most snow. Until pretty recently we didn’t have a lot of snow - we’d go an entire year with maybe 3" - and it’s hard to say if the pattern of increasing precipitation will continue in coming years. Our falls can be very chilly and dull, especially around late November. But overall it’s worse than, say, a San Antonio winter but still better than Washington DC, and much better than Chicago or Boston. Winters also tend to be accompanied by dryness so just a forewarning if you have allergies or sensitivities to that sort of thing.
Also, fall is hurricane season and Richmond does experience heavy rains and winds when those head this way.
