OKAY so I waited too long to register for my Emerson auditions in Chicago, so all I could get was a 2:00 slot on that Wednesday. I already have scheduled auditions at 1:10pm that day for Webster, so does anyone know from their audition experience with Webster how long it would take at unifieds? I need to be registering at my Emerson audition at least 20 minutes before, so at least by 1:40! Would 30 minutes be enough time set aside for my Webster audition? I assume they wouldn’t have me in the room for more than 10-15 minutes, and that leaves 15-20 minutes for registration and paperwork and such. Any input is appreciated!!!
Unfortunately, I think to be safe you need to plan for more than 30 minutes. Last year at Chicago Unifieds, my D met first with two faculty members and did her vocal selections and interview, then came back to wait a bit longer and met with someone else for the acting portion. I’m guessing it took about 30-40 minutes from start to finish. But if you happen to catch them running behind, or someone needs a break, that could definitely cause delays.
That said, I do recall that they seemed to be seeing kids based on when they showed up, and not in order of appointment time. We showed up about 20 minutes earlier than D’s appointment time. She was seen before a friend hers who came a little later but had an earlier appointment time. With Wednesday being the last day, there might be some no-shows too. So if you can’t change the time, maybe you could show up early and hope they’ll get you in earlier.
If there’s any option of changing either of your auditions to spread them out, I’d recommend that, But don’t stress over it if you can’t. I think most of these schools understand that there’s a lot going on and there are bound to be delays.
Break legs!
When we booked Webster they told us they were flexible with changes – give them a call.
We already pushed Webster’s time a bit to accommodate another audition. They were very nice about the change. However, the woman at Webster said it would only be a 15 minute audition (if that helps you). We do have a 30 minute cushion of time between the two - hoping that will be enough in case of any delays.
based on Bogeyw’s note above, I think planning for at least 30 minutes for Webster is a good plan My D is straight acting so she shouldn’t have to sing, etc. That may make hers shorter.
My D auditioned at NYC unifieds this year and they were running about an hour behind schedule for Webster. However, as mentioned above - they seemed to be taking people as they showed up. They weren’t calling people like other schools did – the kids just sort of stood by the sign in table and it appeared they took whoever was waiting and had finished the paperwork. I’m sure they had a system, but it wasn’t as obvious as with other schools that had a clear list and would let you know you were “on deck” (next in line), etc. They were very nice though and seemed to get everyone in.
