Any thoughts on this? My daughter feels very connected to both schools; however, after a visit to Webster two weeks ago is really feeling strongly about it. She just wants to make a truly informed decision. So, she’s been researching and I thought I would add a little more insight to the mix.

Baldwin Wallace is a BM where as Webster is a BFA. BW is more music based and Webster concentrates more on acting. Webster has a Starbucks right down the street!

SEATA - Congratulations to you and your talented D, who had a great audition season. I am sure some other MT hopefulls will be excited that some slots will open up.

PS - Starbucks down the street would definitely have been taken into consideration in my world :D!

SEATA - We will be joining you on getting to know St. Louis. And don't do what I did. Instead of taking the road along the river in downtown St. Louis I went to the left and ended up going over the Mississippi and into Illinois! My daughter and I were so shocked that Illinois was so close!

Hooray for choosing Webster! I just talked to my D and she sounded so happy about her classes (not happy about the rain-because she couldn't find her umbrella). I hope your children will be as happy as mine.

Please let me know if I can help you in any way!
Marianne

Rain, rain, go away! AND boy does it come down like cats and dogs down there!! Make sure you invest in a good water proof backpack...my one S learned the hard way and all of the contents of his bp were doused...all his sheet music was ruined. Luckily he wasn't carrying his laptop at the time.

Congratulations to you all...marianne and barb's daughters will certainly be good contacts for you all...not to mention their wonderful moms. Soon you will be in my shoes...only 32 days until graduation. yipee! :)

marianne406 and 5pants, thank you! It is so nice to know there are mom's available to talk to with lots of answers to any questions we might have.

Yes, we're here for you and it's so nice to have someone who knows what's coming up next. Sue has helped me with so many questions, it's hard to believe 32 days until graduation. Sue, I wish I could be there. My husband is going to be on campus that week so maybe you'll see him but not me, unless I win the lottery. It could happen. I will buy a ticket.

You all are truly the most wonderful people. I feel that wherever my D decided to go, she would have been happy. However, I believe Webster is an awesome choice. I promise to keep in touch.

Yea! I feel like a tremendous weight has been lifted.

And for the previous message regarding my D being an ingenue soprano, you are correct. Good luck to the other ladies in waiting.

to SEATA's D and NCMT's D on their decisions. Webster's a great school with a great conservatory program. I hope your daughters will be as happy as my D and Marianne's D and Sue's sons. They will work hard and learn a lot!!

Sue, I can hardly believe it's only 32 (well, 31, now I guess) days till graduation. That is so exciting; I can't wait to see what the future brings for them. You have been an incredible source of information and support and I hope you keep posting with updates from "the next step"

BTW, big thumbs-up for Starbucks on the corner. I, myself, managed 3 stops there in ONE DAY on my last visit to Webster :)

.....and after the shows be sure to hit Cyrano's for a FABULOUS dessert....their treats are to die for!! suuuuugar buzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Really, what's not to love in a town where you can park at the theatre, walk down to Starbucks for a BEFORE show cuppa joe, buy a little treat DURING intermission at the lovely "cafe bar" in the theatre, and then top off the evening AFTER the show by crossing the street to Cyrano's for a delicious dessert? ;)

This is a question late in the game, but I am just wondering... BW keeps sending emails to my D regarding the progress of their seniors since showcase was within the past week. They seem to be doing really well. I am just curious how the feedback has been from the Webster showcase. I still feel very comfortable with D's decision to go to Webster, but I'm feeling as if I need some answers should any questions arise from her (not that they have yet). Also, I realize that the emails are, in part, meant to entice the students who are undecided to go ahead and chose BW.

Any thoughts on this? Thanks; as always, don't know how I would do this without all of you.

I haven't been advising lately, but I will be happy to help answer questions and address your concerns regarding the showcase.

This year in NYC Webster had the highest turnout for a showcase EVER!! The second show was standing room only. Many of the students received business cards (kind of golden tickets) from interested agents and casting directors. Those contacts are very important for when they finally end up moving to NYC after they have gradutated. By the way, both talent and commercial agents attended the event.

Two of the Webster seniors landed callbacks for the national tour of CATS and another landed a callback for the European tour of WESTSIDE STORY (Maria). One student also was called in to do a demo/file tape for ALL MY CHILDREN. Others received interest from casting directors with LEGALLY BLONDE. There were lots of other offers but I think you get the idea.

Webster has very passionate and nuturing alumnis whom also attend the event and continuously help the graduates along with advice and valuable contacts. One in particular comes to mind is Hunter Bell. Go ahead and 'google' him. You will see that he has written and starred in his own off-Broadway show which will go to Broadway very soon. I can't tell you how comforting it is for me as a parent to have found out that these alumni are there and waiting to help show the ropes to the new Web grads!! In this business a strong network is paramount.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Webster's new MT head is Lara Teeter...a past Broadway performer who has lots of contacts. Also, with Jerry Mitchell being a past Webster student and friends with Lara that has also added to the contact pool.

Seniors are now busy preparing for their LA/Hollywood showcase which will take place the week after graduation. That of course is a whole different world from NYC, but will certainly add to their scope of the entertainment field. Lucky for the senior class they have a classmate who's mom is a promoter for bands. She has single handedly taken on the promotion for the LA showcase this year. I think this is merely the second year for the LA showcase so it is in it's baby stage...certainly this wonderful mom's efforts will only embellish future contacts for upcoming senior LA showcases.

Feel free to post any questions...I don't have my PM turned on, but will be sure to check in here now and then.

5 Pants- Thank you sooooooo much. Wow! You truly are a wealth of knowledge. I feel confident with my D's decision, but I figure you can never have enough information (especially when a teenager's mind starts to tick). I am sending only positive thoughts to your family and your sons.
