We just had a student receive an email of acceptance for the MT department.
I’m confused, I thought the MT notifications came only through snail mail? If we haven’t received an email, should we prepare D for the worst?
@origamimommy a student who was accepted posted on the online college audition Facebook group saying that the faculty has been sending out e-mails randomly but that “their cut off date is April 1st”
@atteballet I didn’t even know there was college audition fb page. lol would you mind sharing the name of it?
It’s called “The Ensenble”
@attheballet and @NAtlantaStudio - I am actually disappointed that Webster faculty are doing these emails because we were told explicitly that Webster faculty were not allowed to do that and that the only notification would be by snail mail. It is unfair because kids may not be getting emails for reasons other than rejection (such as my child whose email address the entered into the system incorrectly) or because they are rejected. If a school has a policy, it needs to be followed consistently. If they want students and parents to play by the rules, they should play by the rules too, no?
@CollegeDadofTwo I understand your frustration, however, what Webster is doing is almost exactly what other schools do as well. The Admissions Department and the Theatre Departments do not follow the same guidelines or policies. What Webster is doing is the same as what they have done each year previously. Last year Wright State told one of the audition groups (I was present in the room) that they definitely DO NOT have a waitlist. However, we know for a fact now that there was and is this year a waitlist.
It does feel wrong and it is very frustrating. There is nothing about the process that goes along with what you think or hope would happen. We had a student told by the head of one program that there is no way they would miss having them in their program; however, when the offers went out, this student was not on the list. So many of us wish there was a governing body that helped give good policies that could streamline this process.
In the end many of these Theatre programs are run by artistic people whose forte is not administration and for the most part that is a VERY GOOD thing. We don’t want art to turn into a corporation. However, the down side is that with the creative talent sometimes comes this lack of following the norm or standards.
Again, I understand the frustration as my own child has been hurt by the process.
Di is interested in Webster but the previous comment about sexual assault on campus make ME very nervous. Is there any follow-up to this? Any parents of Webster kids care to comment on the safety of the school/neighborhood?
My daughter is a Freshman at Webster in the BFA Wig and Makeup Design program. She loves it there and tells me over and over again not to worry about campus safety. Of course I still worry, and I worry about my older daughter on her campus too–that’s a mother’s perogative ha ha.
Anyone hear yet???
Crickets! Anyone? There was 1 or 2 offers mentioned on the Troupe but we’ve heard nothing.
Rejection in the mail today. But this was bottom of the list, so we don’t care!
Nothing here yet. Maybe it’ll come today for us too? This is one of three we’re still waiting for.
@claire74 can I ask the postmark? Debating how long it will take to get us
@mtmamma2020 My niece received her letter today. The letter was dated March 23, while the envelope postmark was March 24.
We also received a letter today, so they are on their way. Ours was a rejection, but my son wasn’t bothered by it. At this point he’s pretty much decided where he’s going.
Hi! I was just accepted into the MT program for the class of '21 and am very excited. Is there any update on this program and what alumni (specifically girls) are doing in the professional world ??
@tbini Congratulations! My daughter graduated from the MT program awhile ago (2010). She is in Los Angeles. She works mostly in commercials but occasionally is in some live theatre productions. She also is hired to do TYA productions around the USA and Canada. She has always felt like her education at Webster prepared her well. I know several of her classmates are also working in various regional theatres, tours etc.
