Weekend/Nightlife at Rowan

I’m considering applying to Rowan next fall. I’m impressed with the engineering program there and I’m fairly certain that I would get good merit aid, so it seems like a good option. The only thing that is concerning about Rowan is the apparent lack of activity. I visited Rowan on a weekend in October and walked through the campus and it seemed like a ghost town. I saw only a handful of students the whole visit and that was very concerning. I would not want to attend a school where everyone leaves for the weekend. Can any current or former Rowan students comment on the weekend life at Rowan?

My son is a current freshman. I’m sure he doesn’t share all his leisure activities with me (thank God!!!), but he is never lacking for things to do. I think a lot of it depends on the type of person you are; my son has always been very social and makes friends easily. He said there is a party every weekend if you’re interested. He is not interested in pledging a fraternity but still goes to the parties.

If frat parties are not your thing, Rowan After Hours is constantly running activities on the weekends for the non-drinking crowd - movies, athletic events, shows, concerts, etc… There are discounted/free bus trips to Philly, hockey games, shows, etc… Tons of intramurals, club teams, academic clubs, etc… Once you’re a student, they send out almost daily emails with a listing of all the available and upcoming activities.

It’s really what you make of it. I know a senior engineering student at Rowan who has not enjoyed it at all, but he also has come home almost every single weekend since freshman year. My son didn’t come home much last semester and doesn’t plan to this semester. If you want to get involved, you will find tons of different options. Good luck!

Please don’t wait too long to apply to Rowan if you are thinking about it. There is a priority deadline if you are hoping for merit scholarships.

I’m a junior right now so I will be applying next year

I post here way too often

My daughter and foster son both attend Rowan. It is my daughter’s second year and my son’s third, although they are both juniors.

Neither drinks or uses substances, so they don’t go to the parties. There are definitely parties there though. My daughter told about hanging out with friends in HoPoCo’s lounge, which looks out over the campus, and seeing all the outfits people wore to go out to the parties (particularly entertaining on Halloween, apparently).

My kids rarely come home, and never complain they are bored. They take advantage of many sponsored activities (i.e. bus to NYC for $5, tickets to Broadway for $50, on campus performances, RoGlow). They have friends that get together and go out to the movies, to eat, and to different activities. They figured out the NJ Transit bus in to Philly, so go in to Reading Terminal Market, among other places.

I was similar in nature, and have years of fond memories of my days in college, and just got together with a bunch of my college friends over the winter break  It is what you make of it!
