Hey, I have a question, how much weight do admissions put on good AP scores? And what if you have mediocre SAT scores (like 600's SAT IIs, 2000-2100 SAT I). How does it go into the equation?

There is no equation for admissions. However, I'd think they would use it to verify the grades you got in the class. I know of some people from other schools that my friends go to that got an A in the class but got 2s on the exam.

It's optional to give your AP scores, isn't it?

Yeah, they're optional on almost all applications if not all, I believe. I mean, they wouldn't make it mandatory because they would have a difficult time verifying them because you usually send them only if you know you can get credit for them.

Oh, that's very true. And it'd be too expensive $15 per score report.

Yale has one of the few applications I've seen that specifically asks for scores on any AP tests you've taken. So I would read that as not optional. It's anyone's guess how much these would count, but I suppose they could serve as a point of comparison to the grade earned in the AP class itself.

Actually, it says optional on Yale's application. It says Additional Testing (Optional). And it's not just for listing AP scores but any additional testing you did besides SAT or ACT.

Do you think taking an AP English course versus an honors English course senior year would affect admission to a school such as the aforementioned Yale?

One class wouldn't make a difference I'd think.

Thank you --- any other thoughts?

Miles: you're asking a very pointed question on which no one can give you a real answer since we don't know your full package. Of course AP Eng is better than H English. But would that tip you in or tip you out? Who can know? What else does your transcript look like? Really though, one class has very little weight. It's your 3.5 years of HS performance overall that's considered. Good luck to you

Thank you to both of you.

Thus far, though, I have taken the most rigorous curriculum possible, including of the 2 AP Englishes -- does it make a difference that I will apply as a mathematics/sciences major?
