Weight of SAT/ACT Vs. GPA

Do all schools weigh the SAT Vs. GPA the same amount?

Do the private schools tend to look at SAT scores more and the public ones like UCs look at GPA more?

I have a decent SAt score (2290) but my GPA isn't as great because second semester Junior year, my parents went through a divorce and I ended up witha few C's in my classes. (U.C weighted 4.1, unweighted 3.8, weighted at my school 4.4). So I was wondering which schools view SAT scores as a strong factor of admission? If there is an inconsistency in my grades, like the my sudden drop, and I explain the situation will colleges be a bit more lenient?

Do you know your rank?

My weighted rank is 10

My unweighted rank is 30ish.

2290 a decent SAT score? 4.4 GPA not great? You just need some perspective.

But that's my school's GPA. I really screwed up my Junior year which sucks because UC schools only calculate 10th and 11th grade grades for GPA. My UC GPA is barely a 4.1

I wouldn't be worried if I had just mostly A's and a few Bs, but then I recieved a C. If the colleges see that I am capable of getting good grades but just had a slip in 2nd semseter Junior year, will they understand?

How big is your class?

550ish students.

You can have your counselor explain the divorce in her recommendation; this would definitely justify a slip up in grades, and you'll be fine.

But the downfall about
UC schools is that there are no reccomendations.

Am I reading this right? The OP has a 4.1 UC GPA that is equivalent to the 2006 admitted profiles of the top UC's and an SAT that is clearly higher and he/she is worried about it being low? That is kind of like having ten million dollars in the bank and worrying about how much a cup of coffee costs. You have obviously done a great job in school and when you apply you will stand as good a chance as anyone of being admitted to a top school. Good Luck.

you could have explained it in either open ended or additional info
