On my transcript, it gives a weighted GPA. My weighted GPA from grades 9-11 is 3.886.
I took an honors class (honors chem) in 10th grade, and I’ve heard that honors classes are weighted as per the internet.
So, I did the math to make sure that this is all correct.
If I count EVERY class on the 4.0 scale, my GPA is 3.886.
If I put just the honors class on a 4.5 scale, and all of the rest on the 4.0 scale, my GPA comes out to 3.902.
Does this mean that my school calculated my weighted GPA wrong? I really need to send my transcript in soon so if anyone could give me some insight, that would be appreciated. Thank you!
Does your transcript have an unweighted GPA as well?
I would recommend asking your guidance counselor how grading works at your school. Different schools have different policies. Maybe your school only weights AP classes. Maybe the “weighted GPA” is really just an unweighted GPA. Maybe they used a different 4.0 scale than you.
Really, though, it sounds like you got As almost all of the time and shouldn’t worry about being rejected on the basis of your grades.
Your school did not give you the wrong weighted GPA. They have their own rules for what weight to give. Ask your GC what it is (or look in your student handbook where it’s most likely spelled out). Your transcript gets sent by your school.
My son had Honors Algebra2/Trigonometry in sophomore but it is not university approved honors course hence no extra credit. So you do need to consult the student handbook to see what counts and what doesn’t.
