I am trying to calculate my GPA and I was wondering what do the terms "Weighted" and "Unweighted" mean?

Weighted tends to mean that AP or honors classes have more of an impact on your GPA. I think one of the standard ways to do it (my school doesn't, unfortunately, we just are weird and on a 4.5 scale) is to make an A in an AP class be a 5.0 on the 4.0 scale.

Therefore, a student with straight As in all AP classes would have a 5.0/4.0 (don't think it'd be possible, usually there's some non AP class) as opposed to a non AP student with a 4.0/4.0.

That's the only way I've really heard of but I'm sure there are others.

At my school, weighted classes are at 1.1, so an A in an honors, pre-AP, or AP class would be 4.4/4.0.

What do you guys think the average GPA for admittance into Yale as a freshman? Unweighted being a 4.0

I read it was a 3.85 or 3.9 for unweighted. i think
