what's the difference between weight and unweight gpa?

as the title implies?

what is the difference?

weighted adds an extra point to AP courses, unweighted doesnt.

And Honors and IB.

k

im taking bc calc and I got A+ for it ... so how many extra points would be added?

i think prob 5.33? idk my school doesnt do A+, the top grade u can get is A, which is a 5... but yea idk how this whole unweighted /weighted thing works cuz i see rediculous stats of ppl with like 3.8 gpa but only top 10% of their class or w/e, where as i'm 3.3-3.4 unweighed (4.3) weidghed, and i'm top 5%... and our hs is really a really competitive one in ct. it makes me really mad because schools like umich is looking at my uw gpa and seeing hte wrong picture. 3.5 unweighted is pretty good at our school cuz the honors classes are hard

It depends on the school...

For instance, my school adds on ten points for AP classes.. so say I got an 87 in AP english (which is true, actually xD). When you weight it, it's a 97. So when they calculate my weighted GPA, they use a 97 for english instead of the 87, hence why the weighted is higher. It calcuates in the difficulty if the course.
