weightlifting question

haha you guys suck. Im 5’6" , 145 pounds and bench max like 200, though I generally do like 3 sets of 12 reps of 95 pounds. I dont eat that much, and I gain a lot of weight unless I am constantly working out. my metabolism sucks! and it couldnt hurt to grow a few more inches…Im 17 1/2 so Im afraid I might be done growing…when do guys generally stop growing?

LOL Messiah!
after you commented on my chance thread, i decided to find out about you… (stalk?XD)

anyways, i did bodybuidling for 2 years. are you goona put that on your app?

Your max bench - weight - regular routine is fairly weird, but ok. I don’t know why you’re doing 12 reps 95lbs 3 sets lol. I wouldn’t complain about metabolism; if you really do things right then it shouldn’t be a problem, although you may have to adjust more/not see results as fast as others. And the fact that “you dont eat much” just may be a problem.

As for height, guys stop growing generally around 18-19, some 21, but in my experience the average guy grows minimally from 16-21 (maybe 2 inches or so). I’m the exception since I started growing late, grew like 2 1/2 inches from almost-16 to now (it’s been a year, and I’m turning 17 end of this month), and I’m still growing.

Moodrets, I may have to check out that Rippetoe book. I haven’t lifted seriously in a while (6+ months) so it hasn’t been too good. My stats probably dropped: I’m gonna start low for now and start with a plate (maybe +10lbs on top of that on each side) on each side (LOL) as a routine until I get used to it again. Fail.

He doesn’t body build, he wants to find out how to put a little muscle on.

And on another note, the 4% BF was a * slight * exaggeration :)

steroids, bro

By at least 6%? ;)

why is my routine weird? I thought you are supposed to do 3 sets of 12 reps at my age and youre not supposed to bench your max when you do that. and I said I dont eat THAT much, meaning I dont overeat. I am a teenage guy so of course I eat a lot, maybe like 2500 calories a day.

50% of your max isn’t much.

ah. ok thanks for clarifying

Haha dude calm down. I’m definitely far from being an expert, but by “weird” I meant that I haven’t seen that sort of training before:

 1. 12 reps isn’t unheard of, but it’s more for the aesthetics (gaining muscular looks), muscles etc rather than strength development. If you can easily do 12, you’re probably doing too many reps. I’d say 8-10 is good for a “cap” max limit, usually 8 from what I’ve seen.
 2. Nothing really wrong with 3 sets, although I’d increase it to around 5 with less reps.
 3. And the strangest of all is why you’d do 95lbs, if your max truly is 200. If you can do 12 reps on there easily, you could easily increase the weight.

And 2500 calories is fairly average, but definitely not undereating.

6’1, 200pounds here.

I have been doing usually 3x8 and 3x10 just for more endurance but going slowly down to work my way to 1x1 with squatting and benching. I am only 5’3 though and 140lbs :s
