I know I’ll get called a ■■■■■ and whatnot for posting this, but so be it. This was a study/survey that asked real students (high school seniors, i think) to rejigger the Usnews ranking into so that they put weight on the things that they thought deserved weight. Something like that. Anyway, these are the rankings, followed by the “popularity” rankings. Obviously these aren’t “real” rankings, but I think they say something about what students thing about certain schools.

man...thanks for the info it makes me feel sorry for myself...I go to a school whose avg. student makes $450k/year 10 years out of college. I should just go kill myself. Who wants to have a huge house and a ferrari by the time they're 32 when they're school isn't considered the best in the world. :( I'm so depressed now...

I can't think of a single rational person in this universe who would actually consider that ranking valid...but then again, I'm no Gentleman AND Scholar.

Perhaps the validity is the name recognition of high school students whose parents have of not graduated from college and whom are all qualified for Pell Grants and SEOG......sports fans, cannot tell you who or what the Ivy League is....I could go on. It could be valid for any of those.

Ah yes, attack the messanger! I didn't create these rankings, and I didn't say they were good, but I did have a sneaking suspicion that if I posted them here I'd catch heat from all of you, and I was right. I mean c'mon, look at you guys taking pot shots at me just because I had the nerve to post an unusual rankings. The only reason I even posted here was because your school was the most affected and I was curious to see what you'd say about it. Frankly, I think its kind of pathetic that you get so riled up and feel the need to lash out at me. Listen, if you're not satisfied with your school then you can always tranfer to Penn State.

lol what do you think we'd have to say about it. and we're not getting riled up. it's sarcasm because we see how ridiculous and pointless this whole post is.

What do you expect us to say? "WOW look at those rankings, they're spot on!!! I didn't realize our school sucked so much."

I mean cmon, Boston College!?!?! Carnegie Mellon!?!?! What liberal New Englander high school student is gonna flock there, may I ask? Apparently all of them, from this brilliant list.

I'd expect you to say whatever you want about the rankings, but without getting ****y at me. Obviously everyone here knows that Penn is an elite university, but I thought maybe you'd be curious as to why these students either don't think Penn is great, or more likey, are confused about Penn and Penn State, so they just put them both in the middle. Either way, bragging about how much money you MIGHT make in 10 years is kind of desperate and doesn't impress me.

wow...I agree with the UPENN people. Even tough one one of my top choices NYU(Stern) is ranked 1 this list is just (wack). putting it in a ghetto way. haha

Dude! "Gentleman and Scholar (or whatever)," no one cares about your post. really. and you know what we have to say about people not knowing that penn is a good school? who the hell cares? clearly theyre not ivy-bound anyways! when it comes down to it, the right people will know that we were educated at a top notch school, so why should we waste our time worried about ignorant high schoolers? and if this comes across as *****y, so be it! you knew what our response would be: it's agitation that you would waste our time posting such meaningless crap on the message board. so lets just end it here.

Wow^^^ switch to decaf! If you wanted to "just end it here," then why did you bump it up? And if your so proud of the your school why do you feel the need to mention that its "Penn-Wharton" rather than just Penn? Interesting. You know, I don't think anyone would get worked up if these ranking had Harvard, Yale or Princeton (your peer schools) ranked where Penn is ranked. I think they'd feel confident enough to know that there school is one of the best and look at the rankings for what they are, which is nothing more than an interesting indicator of what high school seniors think of schools. So please don't blow any more gaskets on my account, ms. "penn-whaton." Problem solved. Now if we could just deal with your anger.

why did i mention it's penn-wharton? because i'm dual degreeing between both schools, thank you very much.
and it's ms. penn-wharton for your information.

Penn-Wharton is listed underneath your name, and not to come in on the worng side of a ridiculous argument but if you're doing a dual degree, shouldn't it be College-Wharton not Penn-Wharton, since, you know, Wharton IS in fact part of penn, not a seperate school (sorry, it just reeeeeally grates on me when Whartonites are so quick to distinguish themselves from the rest of the university, with some it's an ego thing, most not, but it still comes off bad)

oh, and these rankings, they really opened my eyes, could someone point me to where the transfer app for penn state is, because i care so much about the influence high school seniors wield in the word. (btw, did anyone else notice that the "Not Penn State" shirts are now availible in the Penn bookstore? weird...)

I disagree. The standing of my university is a reflection of me, and vice versa. Like most people on these boards, I worked my ass of during high school to go to a university that would provide me with a good education and a good time. Ranking surely isn't everything, but it does reflect the caliber of the school and, more importantly, the caliber of its students.

To see such a ridiculous ranking will of course prompt criticisms from anyone who is familar with UPenn and what it has to offer compared to some of the other schools on that list.
