Hi, I’m filling out common app supplements ,need some help with a few of the short essay’s as i have no idea what colleges are expecting for following questions:
-John Hopkins:
If you had only $10 (or 8 EUR, or Y1,096, or Rs 458, etc.) to plan a days adventure, where would you go, what would you do, and who would you take with you?
NYU:
Please tell us about something you did last Sunday afternoon (or the Sunday before that, or the Sunday before that . . . ).
Northwestern:
If you could hold a world record, what would it be and why?
You have just become the ruler of a country. What is the first law you enact?
You have the chance to ask one question of the creator of an original work. Who is the creator, what is the work, and
What is your question?
For all of these questions , I am not asking for any answers etc… just what caracteristics are colleges expecting to see in these questions ???
<p>I am considering that too... the thing is what the heck do they want to hear? That i went to 15 museums? studied all day? filled out apps? the question is not precise at all...<br>

<p>I think you can pretty much write anything. They want to see that you're an interesting/unique person. But yea, I'm not applying to those schools because of those annoying questions. Good luck!</p>
<p>Have you taken a look at the featured thread "Universal Admissions Essay Advice" It has a lot of very helpful information on essays and what colleges are really trying to find out when they read those essays. You can find it on the main page.</p>
<p>Those sound like fun questions! I could do a lot with those instead of the really boring question I'm working on right now - how I've showed "intellectual passion through one of my ECs" or something like that. That's the whole purpose of the essay/short answer, though: to gain insight into who you are beyond just your resume and grades. Write something original that tells them who you are.</p>
<p>I'd probably write something on the Hopkins one about going to thrift stores and the park for a picnic or something. Of course, I'm a cheap person, so $10 goes a long way with me and that's stuff I like to do, lol. Whatever you like to do...</p>
<p>In the NYU one, you can just write about whatever you typically do on Sunday afternoons, be it fill out apps or whatever. If you have a special memory of a particular recent Sunday afternoon, use that.</p>
