Quirky JHU Essay

Hey all,
I was just curious how some of you did the $10 question in the application. They give an opportunity to use any media you want but i dont know if that would be better than writing an typical essay. Just curious so if you guys could just list what you have done that would be great!

Word.

i am in same situation. i dont know HOW to write for 10 dollar adventure.
have anyone used or plan to use an unique medium other than an essay?

thanks

i have written an essay on the $10 question. i really don't think any other medium would work. if u have any suggestions, please post them.

can i ask you how you did approach $10 essay??

I submitted a scrapbook, with photos chronicling what my friends and I did with the $10. Another cool one from a student here I've talked to did hers on a dictaphone, it was like 20 minutes of clips of the day recorded.

for anyone doing the essay, how long was yours?

I didnt end up sending my application, but I composed a short piece Peter and the Wolf style with an accompanying narrative.

my essay was about 650 words. i didn't know u could stick pictures for an essay. i thought u had to write and show ur worth at writing.

dont be cute...write the essay from the heart and show how you are different and will add value...period....

I talked about how I was going to watch a movie my dad
It was about how me and my dad never get along, but I want to give it a try
That kinda stuff

Very personal, kinda had hard time writing it

is there supposed to be a word limit on this essay? i kno that most college essays should be around 500. anything specific for hopkins?

My essay on the $10 adventure is 604 words. The other essay on my favorite course is 736 words < this is a lot. Do you think its okay for the second essay to be this long?????

they say write a brief essay so im guessing it should be shorter than the first - I'm limiting myself to around 250....
How many eder's are sending in their applications tomorrow by mail or online?
i dont want to be the only one lol

My $10 one was 581 and my favorite class one was 301 words long. I think thats a pretty good length for both of them. Siblea- yea, 736 words seems like a lot but if you put them to good use, I'm sure that Hopkins wont have a problem with your essay.

hey both my essays were pretty long. considering that we are agreeing to attend JHU if accepted, i think writing a longer essay wouldn't hurt. and yeah humanfugitive lol, i sent my essays in today.

my most interesting class essay sucked. like 800 words. i didnt have time to revise it. so... plain... wordy.. i am doommed T_T

oh. i just sent mine. -0- i didnt have extra money to send my stuffs faster, therefore my mail would get JHU like thurday or friday. that's kinda sad -_-

my $10 essay was a big cliff hanger. My other one was ok....just talked about a course on research and how it helped me realize the importance of research and how it changed my life...blah blah blah...haha

ya, i am playing by the book. :P

chicagonobel (im guessing ur from illinois), are u applying ed to jhu?

no jhu, I am applying to Universtiy of Chicago for EA. So can't apply to JHU...Damn, just got a paper cut...too many damn application papers on my comp. desk....

And on the side note, I am from the lonely, the down trodden, the stupid confederate state of south carolina

P.S. At least for the moment.

yea i felt my 10 dollar was a big risk.
