Welcome Day v. Admitted Student College of Science Day?

Hello there! I was accepted into Northeastern's honors college at the end of February, and I have been getting e-mails from the school reminding me to register for various accepted student events. In my myNEU account, under the "register for events" section of the self-service tab, there are two events available: Welcome Day and Admitted Student College of Science Day. I don't really understand what the difference between the two is. One is a lot more convenient for me because it's not during school, so I'd much rather go to one over the other, but I do not want to miss out on something important. I tried to contact the school to discern what the difference is, but they were not too helpful. I was hoping that someone here might be able to explain to me what the difference between the two events is. Thanks in advance!

Living 1200 miles away, I didn’t go to either event before coming to NU. I don’t feel like I missed a ton of terribly important information, so I wouldn’t worry too much about missing necessary info.
Having never been to either, though, I can’t actually tell you what either is.

Welcome Day is available to all students, regardless of major. You do tours, info sessions, etc. A lot of people have said that Welcome Day really convinced them to choose Northeastern, but if you obviously already want to go here then it’s not going to matter at all. (I didn’t go)

The College of Science thing is obviously just for students of that college. It’d be similar stuff, but more specific. I bet they’d talk a lot about research potential and the top professors, etc etc. It should be interesting, but not necessary.

I’d personally go to the College of Science one, because they’ll probably have similar material plus a little more. But it honestly doesn’t matter if you miss one or the other, or both.

Also the reason why admissions wouldn’t know too much is because now everything is starting to move into college-specific offices and the event people… Like for example admissions knows very little about Orientation, because it’s an entirely different office and the part-time workers in admissions likely won’t have been briefed on any of it.

@neuchimie, thanks so much!

I live only an hour away, so I went to both last year. If I had to choose, I’d go to the College of Science one. You get to learn more about the college itself, and your specific department. Plus, you get to tour labs and stuff, and they’re awesome.

Does NU cover travel expenses and air fare to the Welcome Day for College of Arts, Media and Design students?

No, they don’t.
