As a reminder, our College Reps are individuals that we have taken reasonable steps to verify as being from the school they represent. (If you find a CC member claiming to be an admissions person at a college and that member isn't flagged as a College Rep, please let us know so that we can verify his/her status.)

As an matter of courtesy to our College Reps (who have real-world jobs and are incredibly busy during the admissions season!), please don't post pleas for help naming the individual (e.g., "jmyers17 - Need Answer ASAP!!!" is what NOT to do - ask your question in a new thread with a clear and specific title, and you'll get input from CC members and, perhaps, from the resident College Rep if he/she has something to contribute.)

Say hello if you like, but please don't ask questions in this thread - start a new one with a relevant title.

Sally, My D is a Senior Comm Serv Scholar @ DePaul and I cannot believe how that great program seems to be so under-the-radar; you’re really the first person I’ve found on this site to even mention it other than me. I encouraged D to apply to DePaul because she loved one-hour-away Northeastern but we didn’t love the pricetag. DePaul was big school/big city but 1,000 miles away. When D was accepted early, she was offered additional paperwork re: Community Service to fill out due to her volunteer involvement in HS. We had NO idea what this program was about but plunged ahead and after the essay and personal interview, she was awarded a CS scholarship. She’s now doing Sr year capstone (100-hr internship @ local charitable org that finishes by Thanksgiving) for which they each get paid $1,000 in addition to the scholarship money. With the recession and scarcity of jobs, she sees the whole world of public service opening up in a big way and DePaul has more than prepared her to take an active role in civic/charitable involvement. This was truly an out-of-the-box, serendipitous choice of school for her and it worked out better than any of us could have dared to expect.

We do not have a minimum requirement when it comes to admission. We can however provide the profile of our average admitted student. Last year, the average GPA was a 3.4/4.0 and middle 50% of our admitted students scored between 22-27 on their ACT.

I plan to major in business at the loop campus, but, I like the Lincoln park campus better to stay at. Considering it is a convenient train ride away, is this a good option for me? Or would it be better to stay at the Loop? Also, where is the housing better? Lincoln Park or the Loop. And which place has more to do?

You are correct about the easy train ride. As a student, you get a UPass which you can use on the “el” and the CTA buses all you want all school year long. Many commerce students choose to live in Lincoln Park and commute to the Loop. Also, most of the on-campus housing options are located in the Lincoln Park campus.

I have a few questions if you don’t mind asking?:

1) Is housing guranteed for all 4 years? I have talked to some undergaduates and some have said that they have been asked to leave housing after their freshman year. Is this true?

2) How is the area? Is it safe? Are there any places to look out for?

1) You are not required nor guaranteed to live in on-campus housing. You can live in housing all 4 years if you’d like and no one will ask you to leave. Most students choose after their sophomore year to move off-campus because there are a lot of apartment options in the neighborhood within easy walking distance.

2) We have 2 main campus. Both Lincoln Park and the Loop are safe and have Public Safety (our campus police) constantly patrolling. We also have the Blue Light System with emergency buttons located all over campus if you ever have an issue.

If you have any other questions, please let me know.

I just had a few questions about housing at Depaul.

How quickly does housing fill up? Is it better to apply as soon as possible or should I wait until I have toured all of the buildings?

Also, which residencies do most first year students live in? And finally, which residence would you personally recommend from the Lincoln Park campus?

I am currently trying to decide between University Hall, Clifton-Fullerton Hall, and Munroe Hall

You best bet when it comes to getting housing is to apply by the Early Action deadline. It’s a non-binding program that gives your priority consideration for merit-based scholarships and housing. The Early Action deadline is Nov. 15th.

Don’t wait until you’ve seen all the housing options. Most freshmen tend to be placed in one of the suite-style dorms where you have a room that’s a double sharing a bathroom with another double (same gender).

I graduated in June 09. As a freshman, I lived in Clifton. All three of those housing options are suite-style and great setups for a freshman. I enjoyed Clifton but a lot of my friends lived in Uhall and enjoyed that.

We definitely take in to consideration the amount of work that is required with IB courses and how they stack up to regular courses at most schools. Good luck! - JM

jmyers17, I am strongly considering Depaul for my masters in accounting. In fact, I’ve already pretty much decided in my mind that Depaul is where I want to go. Only a few issues now. First, any ideas on competitive admissions standards for the Kellstadt school? GMAT and GPA? The website seems to speak more to the MBA students, and I am not sure if the same info pertains to the MAcc students as well. Secondly, financial aid for grad students? I would be from out of state and would have to cover most of my expenses myself. I want to get as much as I can paid for without taking out a ridiculous amount of loans? Third, since I would be from out of state (North Carolina), I would need to find housing. Since I am not an undergrad, I would like to avoid the traditional undergrad housing, if possible. Any suggestions on reasonably priced apartments on or around campus. I would be at the loop campus most, if not all, of the time, but I wouldn’t mind commuting from the lincoln park area if the ride is a quick as you say it is. Keep in mind, I have NEVER been to Chicago before, and learning the city is something I want to do, but something that is very scary at the same time, especially on my own.

Unfortunately, I only handle traditional undergraduate admission. If you have any questions in regards to the graduate business school, I would suggest contacting them directly at 312-362-8810.

Could any of you answer my question as to which firms recruit DePaul students on a regular basis? I am a finance/accounting major and would like to know what firms (preferably investment banks) have a good relationship with DePaul.

We have several relationships with financial firms and businesses in the Chicagoland area including Deloitte, Ernst & Young, KPMG, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Abbott Laboratories, BDO Seidman, and, most recently, Credit Suisse.
