Welcome New Mod - Alexandre!

Alexandre! I got admission to UMICH Ann Arbor in Engg. I am an International Student. Though I applied for ECE, no mention of that in the admission letter or the website- it just mentions as Engg. In contrast, UIUC clearly mentions as ECE. I may get in CMU and there also I believe you are told whether you have got into the major you wanted or not. In such a situation, Is there any risk in taking UMICH as it appears that there is no guarantee what I will get after one year?

I believe there is a risk in that if your GPA is not high enough, you may not be able to major in Electrical Engineering. however, the expected GPA is not outrageous, but you are going to have to take your studies seriously. I would not rely entirely on what I say. I really recommend you contact the CoE at the University of Michigan and ask specific questions.

Freshmen (and 1st semester sophomores) in engineering generally take a common core curriculum of required courses that all engineering majors have to complete to make you a well-rounded engineer. It is generally not until the 2nd semester of your sophomore year that you start taking courses in your chosen engineering major.

As long as you meet the requirements to remain enrolled in the College of Engineering, there is nothing that would prevent you from selecting ECE (or any other type of engineering) as a major.

god job Alexandre !! congrats to your title

Congratulations, Alexandre. You have been extremely helpful to many students and families on here--and your title of moderator is well-deserved.

Do you get to write on your college apps that you were selected as a moderator on CC?

I applied to college in 1991 (yeah, I am old!) and I wasn't a SUPER moderator at the time. In fact, I don't think CC even existed back then. However, if I were to apply to college today, that is not something I would mention on my application form.

Alexandre, do you know how the school of public policy ranks nationally?

Alexandre,

Any chance Michigan will do something about those helmets?

K. Kline

So Alexandre, are you an alumni? I guess I am really wondering how you know so much about UM

Yes Matt, I am an alumnus.

Deprepn, why should Michigan do anything about those helmets? They are the coolest helmets in all of sport! Go blue baby!!!

Tank, I know this is sort of late (I did not receive a notice in my email that you had asked me that question), but if you are still wondering, Michigan has a very respected school of Public Policy. Definitely one of the top 10 in the nation.

Hi Alexandre.

I notice your location is Dubai , United Arab Emirates. Are you the representative of the university over here? I did speak to the representative - although I am not sure if it is you.

Yes, I am the Alumni rep in Dubai. So if somebody called you, it was most likely me!

Oh good - I didn't catch your name when we did speak so was unsure.

I had some questions , but thought I would bring them up when you hold the meeting for the students from Dubai , going to Michigan.

Any update on that?

You're a very persuasive speaker by the way! The Michigan Stamp all over !

I try not to be too "persuasive"! Anyway Gomez, if you have any questions, feel free to call me on my cell. I am going to send you a private message with my #.

I am planning the gathering all of Michigan-bound UAE Wolverines sometime in late April. By the way, I am manning a booth at GETEX on April 11-14. You should drop by and say hi...and bring along a bunch of juniors so that I can brainwa...err, I mean, "persuade" them too! Hehe!!!

I just sent my enrollment deposit to Michigan!! I got waitlisted at Virginia (Mcintire) - but its the Wolverines all the way!

Anyway: -

Im in the process of reading all about the LSA courses. I know the prerequisties for Ross and will defintiely be taking Math 115 , Econ 101 and English (some number:S) .

I would like to know how many credits one is reccomended to take in a semester. Also Ross looks at the amount of courseload taken , and I really wouldn't mind taking a heavy courseload. Coming from Dubai Modern High , we get well trained:P:P. So which courses would you reccomend I take?? I have not studied Accounts at school though.

Also ,I have 4 months now and I do not intend to put it to waste. I plan on getting some work experience(going to have look preety hard in Dubai/Sharjah for jobs for high school students). Do you have any sugesstions on what I should do? A course on Accounting or something?

Also , these Michigan Learning Communites - are they easy to get into? Naturally I will try the LSA Honors Program , although it is difficult. I'm into Community Service too , so will aply to that MLC too. Any recomnendations on this?

If you dont like typing:P - you can call me on my cell. I will pm you my cell no. I really did not want to call for fear of disturbing you during work.
Thanks a lot!
