Welcome Week parties

Hi there,
I had some questions about welcome week parties. First I want to let you know I am a freshmen and im only 18. On sunday september 1st. there is two parties
AEPI Splash Bash at Necto
AEPi presents SPLASH BASH 2013 @ NECTO | Michigan
Tdx rage for Murica
TDX's Rage for 'Murica | Michigan

For splash bash you need to buy a 45 dollar shirt. Do u have to pay anything fo tdx rage? Also, what is the drinking situation for both? Is isplash bash worth buying the t shirt?

Thanks its appreciated!!

If you want go Splah Bash buy the shirt because you won’t be entering Necto Without it…& pretty much every other frat will depend on when you get there good luck…

Is it worth spending $45 for necto.

It looks like over 700 people have confirmed on the FB event page for Splash Bash, probably going to be the biggest party. Has anyone gone? Feels like the best event. Anybody have suggestions for Welcome Week parties?

I didn’t go to Splash Bash last year but I hear it’s not too great. It’s a trick that many freshmen fall for. You don’t need to pay at all to get into a good party during Welcome Week. Almost every party is open. My suggestion would be to click “attend” to any party you find on Facebook so you have a big list of places to go when Welcome Week arrives (although it might be harder to find these if you are a first year since you don’t have that many UMich friends on Facebook) .

Hahaha splash bash is terrible every year, it’s just AEPi’s way of making a bunch of money off freshman who don’t know any better. You can go to much better parties every night for free and actually drink there, unlike at Necto. In fact pretty much any party that has a Facebook event has one for a reason…they need it to even get people to show up. The best welcome week parties are ones you’ll just hear about.

I heard it was really dumb last year they gave out tank tops last year & many people ended up going to other parties there will be plenty you will hear from word of mouth start your search early if you have no idea where your going though.

Does FIJI or Theta Chi throw parties during Welcome Week? I’d like to go to one of them cause they seem like interesting fraternities.

Unless a ton of your friends are going, I would never pay for a Welcome Week party. There are literally 5-6 parties going on every night. Every Fraternity on campus is going to be throwing down. Here’s my Welcome Week tips for any Freshman (guy).

Find a large group of girls to come to parties with you, it’s the only way you’ll get in to the good ones.

If it’s a big party that all the freshmen are talking about, then get there early. Otherwise you’re not getting in until it dies down.

Try to make some connections with fraternity brothers throughout Welcome Week. This will help if you’re rushing later, but it will also help if they like you and keep you updated with future parties.

Have fun, it’s literally one of the best weeks of your life.

Don’t go to Splash Bash. Don’t pay for anything at all. During welcome week (and the few days prior) you can’t take too many steps outside your dorm before seeing a party that you can easily just waltz into. At least that’s been my experience. And take advantage of it because it won’t be like that ever again during the school year.

entenduintransit is correct. Everyone thinks Michigan is such a big party school because of the I’m Shmacked video but the reality is after Welcome Week, things calm down a lot. This is because the academics are pretty tough here so not many people can afford to party three or more nights a week once classes start. If you are looking to party a lot after Welcome Week, you should join a fraternity or sorority.

Seriously just walk around with people you meet in your dorm and you’ll find something. Everyone is pretty open on welcome week. And like others have said in this thread, if you’re with a good sized group of girls then you’ll definitely be fine at frats and even random house parties. My friends and I are planning to throw some parties at our house and we wouldn’t really care if random people showed up as long as they were chill and not causing problems.

One more tip: don’t be afraid to walk into random house parties. As long as you take the time to talk to people in the house and get to know them, it is not awkward. The thing about Ann Arbor is people are generally friendly and always looking to meet new people.

Thanks again guys!

bluedevilsfan is also correct. The I’mShmacked b.s. is fairly inaccurate as far as the year as a whole goes. Welcome week, football pregames, St. Patrick’s Day, and Halloween are the free-for-all-go-crazy-everything-is-open-and-the-booze-is-free days.
