What exactly happens during welcome week? Is it pretty much just parties every night and random optional activities during the day? That's the impression that I've gotten

Yup. Don’t forget to get books too…

Yeah you meet people and wander around during the day and then party every night. The stuff the university puts on is very optional and doesn’t take up that much time.

Alright, sounds like a good time. @flyboy already got that taken care of, but thanks.

kath, be careful with the welcome week partying. The cops will be out looking to give out mip’s and based on your posts you’re a good candidate to receive one. Trust me that it is something you will not want to deal with.

As long as you don’t get blackout and aren’t stupid (open containers while walking around, falling over on the sidewalks, have 10 people in your dorm room drinking, etc.), you’re not going to get an MIP.

As easy as that sounds to follow, you’d be surprised how often it happens.

@res ipsa: “based on your posts you’re a good candidate to receive one”
Excuse me? I’m a very reasonable drinker. I rarely consume more than a couple of drinks in a night. I literally have never blacked out or carried an open container…and wouldn’t be stupid enough to start my first week of college. I have no intention of getting an mip; I CERTAINLY am not a good candidate to get one. I don’t know why the hell you would attempt to judge me based on a couple of post on a college forum.

@actafool08 Thanks, that sounds consistent with what I’ve heard

No problem. Speaking from experience, “Experience is what you get when you didn’t get what you wanted.” :P

I’ve only ever seen/heard of MIPs given when someone was in a fight and the cops had to break it up, or people talked back/****ed with the cops or were throwing up in the hallway.

Just be smart.

Another thing to do during Welcome Week would be walk around and find where your classes are at some point during the day. It will alleviate a lot of first-day-of-class stress and is a good way to get to know your roommates/floormates/whoever you walk around with.

does anyone know of Fiji’s party or possibly any others?? help me out people!

Not every fraternity has an advertised party, and it’s generally considered better when you don’t. Can’t recall Fiji having a huge party like that, but they might be like Pike where they just throw a lot of open parties during welcome week. Other fraternities like Phi Psi, SAE, and Theta Chi will have more exclusive parties. Just walk around and you’ll find something.

anything happening on the first?

op chill. hope you arent planning goin to parties with an attitude like that. just chill and relax. u are a perfect candidate, ur a frosh. You will look lost and it will all be new, easy to be in the wrong place wrong time. du is just trying to warn you
