What do you do on welcome week? Do you have to stay the whole time from sept 18th-23rd? can you leave the campus anytime you want without missing anything majorly important? I mean, it's not like there's classes to miss...

Each college will have its own schedule. There will be orientations for your college and department, placement exams, library tours, etc. University-wide there’s usually a big dance/party in the quarry, the OPERS faire where you see all the clubs and orgs, Boardwalk Frolic, etc. My college also had its first lecture for core during welcome week, but I’m not sure if they still do that.

So, to answer, there’s a lot going on. Some events are required, some recommended, and some just for fun. There’s definitely down time to socialize, buy textbooks, and hop a bus downtown to explore. You’re not required to stay on campus the whole time, but I wouldn’t stray too far (i.e. San Jose or San Francisco) at least this first week.

You’ll get a big packet in the summer, usually early to mid August with the full schedule. It will probably be online before then as well.

The schedule is up already but newly admitted can’t register yet…
